The surface that shapes the puck
The tamper plate is the part of the automatic tamper that meets the coffee. Its diameter determines how much of an edge is left in the basket, its surface whether the puck releases cleanly again. This version measures 58 millimetres and has a non-stick coating.
Wear starts with the coating. It turns dull, then some coffee sticks when it is moist, and at some point the puck surface tears when the plate moves back up. If that sounds familiar, the part has usually been in use longer than was good for it.
When it is due
It is due when coffee sticks to the plate, when the puck surface tears as the plate moves up, when the coating is scratched, worn bare or peeling, or when the edge has taken knocks.

Important for installation
The plate sits on the moving ram. Before any work, the unit is disconnected from the mains, and after the replacement a test run with an empty portafilter is part of the job, to make sure the plate runs freely and enters centrally. We deliberately do not provide step-by-step instructions here.
Who it is for
For bars that work with 58 mm – and for service companies that stock the plate as a wear part rather than treating it as a reason for complaints.
What goes with it
We stock the 58.3 millimetre version as the tamper plate 58.3 mm. The lower clamping ring and the guide ring for M3 to M6 sit on the same mount. The whole category is listed under Macap and PuqPress spare parts and under Puqpress.
From our workshop in Bern and Zurich
We wipe the plate dry at closing and keep scouring pads and descaler away from it. What kills a non-stick coating is almost always the cleaning, not the coffee – that is our routine, not a manufacturer requirement. We then check with whatever is in the grinder at the time, usually Nutty Delight, otherwise Cozy Chocolate or Very Nutty. The full selection is under Coffee beans.
Returns excluded
Original spare parts are excluded from exchange and return. They are sourced specifically for each order and cannot be resold once they have been fitted or test-fitted on a machine. So before ordering, check the model, year of manufacture and serial number of your machine – or drop us a quick line and we will clarify the fit together. Your rights in the event of defective goods remain unaffected.
Frequently asked questions
58 or 58.3 millimetres – which one do I take?
That depends on the basket you work with. We stock both sizes; if you are unsure, write and tell us which basket you use.
Can you actually notice three tenths of a millimetre?
At the edge of the basket, yes – that is where it is decided whether water runs past the puck. We are happy to clarify in advance which size suits your basket.
Does it fit all four models?
Our documentation lists it for M3, M4, M5 and M6. It says nothing about older series.
Are fixings included?
You receive the plate. Whether screws should also be replaced on your unit becomes clear when you remove it.
Can I pick up the part at your shop?
Yes. We are in Bern at Gerberngasse 44 and in Zurich at Hagenholzstrasse 50b. Drop us a quick line telling us which part you need and we will have it ready for you.
