In a valve, it is not the seal alone that seals, but the interplay of seat, seal and holder. The holder guides the seal, keeps it centred and presses it evenly onto the seat. If it wears in, becomes bent or gets an edge worn into it, the seal sits crooked – and a crooked seal won't hold, even straight from the factory.
That's why, when a valve keeps dripping after the seal has been replaced, the holder is the next thing to check. This item carries part number A.1.004.01.
The valve keeps dripping even though the seal is new. After a short time, the new seal shows a one-sided impression. The holder has a visible groove, a pressure mark or a worn-in edge. It has become hard to move. Or you have the valve open anyway – then the holder is one of the parts worth checking at the same time.

The part sits in a pressurised valve. Only work on the machine when it is switched off, cooled down and depressurised. When dismantling, also check the valve seat: a new seal on a worn-in seat won't hold, no matter how good the holder is. We deliberately do not provide step-by-step instructions here.
For workshops that repair a valve rather than replace it completely, and for anyone looking for exactly this part using the number A.1.004.01 from a service document.
Related parts include the stainless steel valve seat F.3.007, the steam valve seal unit B.2.010 and the steam valve shaft spring. More valve parts can be found in the Original spare parts section, the rest of the range under La Marzocco accessories and spare parts.
From our workshop
When a valve at our place in Bern or Zurich drips for the second time within a year, we don't change the seal again but take a close look at the holder and seat instead – in nine out of ten cases, that's where the problem lies. This is our routine, not a manufacturer's specification. What's in the cup while we work: Nutty Delight, Cozy Chocolate or Very Nutty. More under Coffee beans.
No returns
Original spare parts are excluded from exchange and return. They are sourced specifically for each order and cannot be resold once they have been installed or test-fitted on a machine. So before ordering, check the model, year of manufacture and serial number of your machine – or drop us a quick message and we'll check the fit together. Your rights in the case of defective goods remain unaffected.
No. Only the holder is supplied. The seal is a separate item – let us know which valve you're working on and we'll find it for you.
Our documentation doesn't say, so we don't claim anything. What is reliable is the number A.1.004.01. Send us your machine's serial number and we'll check the fit.
We have no information on this, so we don't state one.
It could be. But often the valve seat is the cause. Both parts should be checked together when troubleshooting.
Yes. We'll be happy to show it to you in our showroom in Bern at Gerberngasse 44 and in Zurich at Hagenholzstrasse 50b.
