Spacers are the quiet helpers of mechanical engineering. They keep two parts at exactly the distance they were designed for, spread the force of a screw and stop metal from rubbing against metal. You never notice them – until one is missing and something wobbles, rattles or sits crooked.
This piece is made of plastic and measures 8,3 x 17,7 mm. Plastic ages: it becomes brittle under heat, develops hairline cracks and flattens under constant load. If a screw no longer tightens properly or a joint has play, a flattened spacer is often the cause.

For service technicians and tech enthusiasts sitting with an exploded parts diagram in front of them and reordering item I.6.004. If you just need “any spacer”, this isn’t the right place – these parts only fit where they belong.
Other spacer parts are the spacer sleeve 3,5 x 1 x 5 mm and the perforated spacer ring for the GS3 MP. You’ll find matching shims with the brass washer 14 x 7 x 0,5 mm, and everything else in the spare parts.
From our workshop in Bern and Zurich: When we take things apart, we put small plastic parts in a shallow tray, not on the worktop. They jump away, roll under the grinder, and then they’re missing at reassembly – and nobody has a spare in the drawer. That’s our routine, not a manufacturer requirement. Then comes the test shot, usually with Nutty Delight or Cozy Chocolate, and on bold days with Very Nutty. You’ll find them all in our coffee beans.
No returns
Spare parts are excluded from exchange and return. They are sourced specifically for your order and cannot be resold after installation or a test fitting on the machine. So before ordering, please check the model, year of manufacture and serial number of your machine – or drop us a quick message and we’ll check the fit together. Your rights in the case of defective goods remain unaffected.
Our documentation doesn’t say, and we don’t guess. It will definitely fit if your service documentation lists the number I.6.004. Otherwise, send us the serial number and we’ll check it in advance.
They are the inner and outer diameter in millimetres, as given in the parts list. The height is cut off in our documentation – we’d rather leave it out than make up a number.
One. If your machine has several in the same position, order accordingly.
We advise against it. Plastic is often chosen deliberately in places like this because it insulates or prevents friction. Metal behaves differently.
Yes. At Gerberngasse 44 in Bern and Hagenholzstrasse 50b in Zurich, we’re happy to compare it with the part you removed.
