A steam wand moves. You swing it over the jug, pull it back, wipe it down – a hundred times a day. Right at this joint between wand and valve assembly sits a PTFE gasket that does two things at once: it seals and it lets the wand glide. An elastomer would either drag at this point or burn out after a short time.
When it wears out, you notice it first by the sound. There is a quiet hiss at the joint where there was nothing to hear before. Then comes the fine, damp mist that shows up in the morning as a ring of limescale around the connection. And finally the wand starts to wander: you set it in position, and after the next steaming it is somewhere else again.
Hissing or steam escaping at the transition between wand and valve assembly. A white ring of limescale that comes back after wiping. A wand that swivels too easily or jerkily instead of moving smoothly. Drops forming at the joint after heating up. And whenever you have removed the wand anyway – the old gasket does not go back in.

The gasket sits on a steam-carrying valve assembly. Before any work, the machine is disconnected from the mains, allowed to cool down completely and the steam boiler is depressurised. We deliberately do not provide step-by-step instructions: anyone who opens a steam valve assembly under residual pressure risks scalding. If you are unsure, have a qualified technician do it – or bring the machine to us.
For businesses that want to get a hissing steam wand sealed again without replacing the entire valve assembly, and for service technicians who systematically renew the seals on steam and hot water during the annual service.
The same assembly includes the GS3 steam and hot water wand repair kit and the ModBar steam wand repair kit. For the wand itself there are, among others, the non-insulated GS3 steam wand and the Pro Touch steam wand. You will find related flat gaskets such as the PTFE gasket 24 × 19 × 2 mm; all other items are listed under Original spare parts.
Barista tip from Bern and Zurich
Our own routine, not a manufacturer specification: we purge the wand before and after every milk drink and wipe it with a damp cloth while it is still warm. Dried milk at the joint attracts limescale, and limescale at the joint wears out the gasket faster than the steam itself. To dial in the milk we like to use Cozy Chocolate, because the chocolate note in a cappuccino immediately shows whether the temperature is right. Nuttier with Nutty Delight, stronger with Very Nutty. Everything under Coffee beans.
No returns
Original spare parts are excluded from exchange and return. They are procured to order and cannot be resold after installation or a test fit on the machine. So before ordering, check the model, year of manufacture and serial number of your machine – or drop us a line and we will clarify the fit together. Your rights in the case of defective goods remain unaffected.
Part number H.2.003.01. If you are working with a number from service documentation, compare it with this one before you order.
Our documentation does not state a dimension, so none is given here. Measure your old gasket and send us the values, and we will compare them with this item.
Our documentation lists it without a model, so we do not claim one. Send us the serial number of your machine and we will check the fit before you order.
At this joint the gasket has to seal and let the wand glide at the same time, and at steam temperature. PTFE can do both. An elastomer of the same size would either drag or quickly harden.
