Brass sits between copper and steel: softer than steel, more dimensionally stable than copper. At a screw connection, a brass washer creates a smooth, even bearing surface and prevents a nut from digging into the component underneath as it is tightened. At one millimetre thick, this one is among the thinnest shims in our range.
The dimensions are 16,5 × 26 × 1 mm, the part number is L165/2. If you find it in service documentation, this item is the right part.
The old washer is warped, cracked or has a visible impression. It no longer lies flat on the table. The nut above it works loose on its own because the bearing surface is no longer level. Or you have the assembly open anyway – then a new shim goes in as well; it costs less than a second appointment.

The washer sits inside the machine. Only work on the machine when it is switched off, cooled down and depressurised. Before installing, compare the inner diameter, outer diameter and thickness with the old washer – one millimetre of thickness is hard to spot by eye, but noticeably changes the height of the screw connection. We deliberately do not give step-by-step instructions here.
With a shim, what matters is material, inner diameter, outer diameter and thickness – the name alone is never enough. We stock these items:
Two washers of almost the same size are not interchangeable if the material is different: a copper washer is allowed to settle, a Teflon washer is springy, a steel washer stays hard. If in doubt, the number on your old part decides.
For workshops that replace the shims at the same time during an overhaul, and for anyone looking for exactly this washer using the number L165/2 from service documentation.
The second brass shim in our range is the I.1.170 with 14 × 7 × 0,5 mm; the hard counterparts are the steel washer I.1.091 and the stainless steel washer I.1.033. You will find all small parts in the category Original spare parts, the rest of the range under La Marzocco accessories and spare parts.
From our workshop
In Bern and Zurich, we check shims with a calliper instead of laying them side by side – 0,5 and 1,0 millimetres of thickness look identical in the light of the workbench, and then the difference does show during reassembly. That is our routine, not a manufacturer requirement. There is usually a cup ready as well: Nutty Delight, Cozy Chocolate or Very Nutty. More under Coffee beans.
No returns
Original spare parts are excluded from exchange and return. They are sourced specifically for each order and cannot be resold after installation or a trial fitting on the machine. So before ordering, check the model, year of manufacture and serial number of your machine – or drop us a line and we will check the fit together. Your rights in the event of defective goods remain unaffected.
Our documentation does not say, so we do not claim it. What is reliable is the number L165/2 and the size 16,5 × 26 × 1 mm. Send us the serial number and we will check the fit.
The documentation describes it as a washer, not as a seal. Whether there is also a sealing ring at your installation point is best checked on the removed part.
In size: L165/2 measures 16,5 × 26 × 1 mm, I.1.170 measures 14 × 7 × 0,5 mm. Both are made of brass, but they are not interchangeable.
One washer per order unit.
