PTFE – usually called Teflon in everyday use – sits where two metal parts should not touch directly: it slides, it does not rust, it withstands heat and cold, and it gives a little under load without breaking. A PTFE washer is therefore something different from a metal washer, even if both look the same and have the same outer dimension.
This one measures 10 × 30 × 2 mm and carries the part number F.1.032. Its outer dimension matches the stainless steel washer I.1.033, its material does not – anyone who mixes up the two fits metal in a place where a separating layer was intended.
The old washer is worn in, flattened or has become thinner. It is cracked or chipped. It has turned greyish because metal has rubbed on it. Or the screw connection above it can no longer be tightened to an even level – then the washer is lacking height.

The washer sits inside the machine. Work is only carried out on a machine that is switched off, cooled down and depressurised. PTFE does not tolerate just any torque: if the screw connection above it is tightened too firmly, the material flows and the washer becomes thinner until the play returns. Tighten with feel and check again after the first heat-up. We deliberately do not give step-by-step instructions here.
With a shim, what matters is material, inner diameter, outer diameter and thickness – the name alone is never enough. We stock these items:
Two washers with almost the same dimensions are not interchangeable if the material is different: a copper washer may settle, a Teflon washer is springy, a steel washer stays hard. If in doubt, the number on your old part decides.
For workshops that also replace the plastic separating layers during an overhaul instead of reusing them, and for anyone looking for exactly this washer with the number F.1.032 from service documentation.
Other PTFE parts in our range are the PTFE gasket 24 × 19 × 2, the PTFE gasket 10 × 2,5 and the Teflon washer I.6.005. All small parts are in the category Original spare parts, the rest of the range under La Marzocco accessories and spare parts.
From our workshop
In Bern and Zurich, we tighten screw connections over PTFE by hand and then add at most one more turn of the spanner – plastic does not forgive excessive torque, it simply gives way, and you only notice at the next service. That is our routine, not a manufacturer requirement. What is in the cup next to it: Nutty Delight, Cozy Chocolate or Very Nutty. More under Coffee beans.
No returns
Original spare parts are excluded from exchange and return. They are sourced specifically for each order and cannot be resold after installation or a trial fitting on the machine. So before ordering, check the model, year of manufacture and serial number of your machine – or drop us a line and we will check the fit together. Your rights in the event of defective goods remain unaffected.
Teflon is a brand name for the plastic polytetrafluoroethylene, PTFE for short. In the catalogue, we always write it the way the item is named in the documentation.
No. The two do have the same outer dimension, but metal and plastic perform different tasks in a screw connection. A PTFE washer separates and slides, a stainless steel washer distributes load.
Our documentation does not say, so we do not claim it. What is reliable is the number F.1.032 and the dimension 10 × 30 × 2 mm.
One washer per order unit.
