The straight-in brew group of the KB90 works with a piston that is guided in the cylinder and sealed by sealing rings. Anyone who moves it with a screwdriver and pliers leaves score marks – and a score mark on the running surface is not something you can polish away later. This tool grips the piston exactly where it is designed to be gripped.
You can tell from the result whether it was used: a piston that was pushed in by hand often sits slightly tilted, the seal wears in unevenly and the group starts dripping again after a few weeks. With the right tool, the same step takes seconds and no force.
Whenever the piston seals on the KB90 brew group are replaced, the piston is removed or the group is dismantled as part of a major service. For a single home user it is rarely worth it – for a workshop or a business with several KB90s it belongs in the toolcase.

Tools for the machine: UT018 for fitting the piston seals type 2 LEVA, UT022 puller for the LEVA piston, UT023 for calibrating the KB90 seal, UT007 for the diffuser Linea Mini R and Micra, plus UT015 for fitting the LEVA piston rings, UT016 conical for fitting the piston seals, UT017 for inserting the LEVA piston, UT021 for fitting the LEVA seals and UT024 for the KB90 piston – that is, this product. In addition, the assembly tool for the LEVA seal.
Tools for the grinder: UT030 for removing the inner burr, UT368 tool set for replacing the Swan burrs, UT369 for removing the outer burr and UT371 centring plate for the SWAN ring.
For service technicians and workshops that look after KB90s, and for businesses that change the seals on the brew group themselves instead of sending the machine away every time.
The same job involves the complete piston for the KB90 group head and the service kit for the straight-in piston. On the same head sits the straight-in locking hook kit. All other items are listed under La Marzocco KB90 spare parts and in the section Original spare parts.
From our workshop in Bern and Zurich
Before assembly, we briefly place the tool in warm water and wet the seal with food-grade silicone grease – that way the piston slides into the cylinder without a jolt. This is our routine, not a manufacturer requirement. Then two blank shots, and we drink the third: usually a Nutty Delight, sometimes the Cozy Chocolate or the Very Nutty. The full selection is under Coffee beans.
No returns
Original spare parts are excluded from exchange and return. They are sourced specifically for each order and cannot be resold once they have been installed or test-fitted on a machine. So before ordering, please check the model, year of manufacture and serial number of your machine – or drop us a line and we will clarify the fit together. Your rights in the event of defective goods remain unaffected.
No, the tool is supplied on its own. The procedure is described in La Marzocco's service documentation for part number UT024.
Our documentation lists UT024 for the KB90. There are separate items for the LEVA, such as UT017 and UT022. Send us the serial number and we will check it.
We have no information on this, so we don't claim any. The only reliable reference is the part number UT024.
