One or two sprays on the beans before they go into the grinder – and the static charge noticeably eases. Less powder clinging to the chute and grinder, less of a dust cloud, less retention. A small tool that usually makes a big difference in the single dose ritual.
A refillable spray bottle for the Ross Droplet Technique, RDT for short.
With the Ross Droplet Technique, the beans are moistened with one or two drops of water before grinding. This reduces the static charge that builds up during grinding – so less ground coffee stays stuck in the grinder and retention drops. The fine mist spreads the small amount of water evenly without soaking the beans.
Inside is a pure glass container, outside a black metal sleeve; the pump nozzle and cap are made of plastic. The bottle is refillable: unscrew the cap, top up with water, done. The glass and spray head have passed the tests of the TUV test centre under the European food contact directive, as well as FDA and ROHS.

For anyone who grinds single dose and wants to keep static in check – especially with grinders that tend to leave grounds behind. RDT isn't a must, but many find the chute cleaner afterwards. Every coffee journey is welcome with us.
RDT works hand in hand with the grinder – affordable and very good with the Varia VS3 or Comandante C40 from our coffee grinder collection, with a higher standard of materials at Weber Workshops. You'll find dosing cups, dosing funnels and WDT tools in our Normcore collection.
The machine to go with it – from single boiler to dual boiler – is in our coffee machine collection. If you're still deciding, try our advice tool.
RDT stands for Ross Droplet Technique. The beans are moistened with one or two drops of water before grinding to reduce static charge and, with it, ground coffee residue in the grinder.
Ordinary tap water is enough. If you like, you can use filtered or distilled water.
Yes, the cap screws off and you can refill the bottle with water.
In principle for all grinders, especially those that tend to build up static residue in single dose use. Even a very small amount of water is enough.
A clean grind helps every bean. For dense, sweet espresso we like to reach for Cozy Chocolate and Nutty Delight. If you like it full and round without any acidity, stay with Very Nutty; for something fruity, Wild Peach goes into the grinder. That's our recommendation, one of many, and any bean you enjoy is the right one.
You order directly through our online shop. If you have questions, we're happy to help — online or in person — with experience from our roastery, cafés and showrooms.
