When a steam assembly causes trouble, it is rarely down to just one spot. The wand is clogged on the inside, the valve behind it no longer seals cleanly, and the seals in the valve seat have gone hard. If you then replace part by part, you end up inside the machine twice and have the same tools in your hand the second time round.
This assembly combines both: steam wand and valve, mounted as one unit. The knob is not included – it stays on your machine and is reused. The part number is R299906015. It fits the newer design of the Appartamento, Mozzafiato and Giotto.
Before you order the whole unit: very often it is just the tip that is blocked. Limescale and burnt-on milk protein narrow the holes, the steam becomes thin and comes out at an angle. Unscrew the tip, soak it overnight, clear the holes – that solves a surprisingly large share of cases. We stock suitable products in Machine and grinder cleaning. Only if things are still not right afterwards, or the valve keeps dripping, is this assembly the right step.
The unit is due when steam or dripping water keeps coming out of the wand after you have closed it. When the steam can only be dosed roughly – open or closed, but nothing in between. When moisture or a white limescale trail appears behind the knob, a sign that the valve is leaking towards the back. Or when the wand is also bent or damaged at the thread and cannot be saved anyway.

The valve sits in a pressurised steam line and reaches into the inside of the machine. We deliberately do not publish step-by-step instructions for this. The machine must be disconnected from the power, depressurised and cooled down, the housing is opened, and when tightening, the torque decides between a tight seal and a damaged thread. This is work for a qualified technician who then checks it under pressure.
For service workshops that want to restore a steam side in a single pass, and for owners of an Appartamento, Mozzafiato or Giotto who are getting the part before their service appointment. Rocket has changed the steam assembly over the production years – send us the serial number and we will check whether it is the new design.
Wands look confusingly alike and still cannot be swapped at will. What matters is which model series it sits on, whether valve and knob are included and which number the manufacturer lists for it. We stock nine wands in the Rocket catalogue, in three groups. Because the documentation for none of them states length, thread size or material, the part number is the reliable feature – which is why we always state it.
Appartamento, Mozzafiato, Giotto and Cellini share three positions: the complete steam wand for Appartamento, Cellini, Giotto and Mozzafiato (part number R290003611) is the wand without valve, the complete steam wand with valve, without knob, for Appartamento, Mozzafiato and Giotto (part number R299906015) – i.e. this product – comes with valve but without knob, and the complete hot water wand for Appartamento, Cellini, Giotto and Mozzafiato (part number R290003612) is the hot water wand of the same model series. The last two numbers differ by a single digit – R290003611 versus R290003612 – and they refer to two different parts: one for steam, one for hot water.
R58, Porta Via, Boxer and R9V each have their own wand: the complete steam wand for the R58, without steam valve (part number A219904651), the steam wand for the Porta Via (part number A219906168), the steam wand for the Boxer (part number R219905307) and the complete steam wand for the R9V (part number M219906488). Nothing here is interchangeable, even if the tubes look similar.
Without a documented model series, there are two more wands in the catalogue: a complete steam wand (part number A219908566) and a second complete steam wand (part number M219906508). For both, the documentation names no model, only the number. If you have service documentation with one of these numbers in front of you, you have the right part; if you are searching by machine model, it is better to drop us a quick line.
At the end of a steam wand sits the tip, and that is what scales up first – not the wand. We stock them individually: the 1.2 mm steam tip for R58 and R60, the 1.5 mm steam tip for R58 and R60 and the two-hole 1.5 mm steam tip for the Appartamento. Often a descaling bath for the tip is enough, and the wand stays where it is.
If you are not sure which wand is fitted to your machine, send us the serial number and we will check the fit before you order. With these parts, that is not just a polite phrase: returns are excluded for original spare parts.
You will find the matching knob and the caps for it under Rocket Appartamento spare parts and Rocket Mozzafiato spare parts. For the Giotto there are Rocket Giotto and Cellini spare parts, and the entire range is listed under Original spare parts and replacement parts.
Our routine from Bern and Zurich – not a manufacturer's specification, but what is standard practice for us: when we replace a steam assembly, we take the knob off straight away, clean the mount and only put it back on once the valve is tight under pressure. Otherwise you end up looking for the fault in the wrong place later. Then a cappuccino as a check – with Nutty Delight, because the foam shows you immediately whether the steam comes out dry. For the second one Cozy Chocolate or the strong Very Nutty. Everything under Coffee beans.
No returns
Original spare parts are excluded from exchange and return. They are procured specifically for each order and cannot be resold after installation or a trial fitting on the machine. So before ordering, check the model, year of manufacture and serial number of your machine – or drop us a quick line and we will clarify the fit together. Your rights in the case of defective goods remain unaffected.
Because as a rule it stays intact. You reuse your existing one. If yours is damaged, we stock knobs and caps separately – write to us and tell us which machine you have.
Rocket has changed the steam assembly over the years. The serial number tells us which version is in your machine. Send it to us and we will check the fit before you order.
If the valve only drips slightly and still turns smoothly, an overhaul kit is the first thing to try. Describe the symptoms to us and we will tell you what we think makes sense.
