WPM Espresso Cup Stand

The small espresso cup sits far below the spout, and with every shot, it splatters onto the scale and drip tray. You push the cup holder up a notch, the cup moves closer to the portafilter – and the stream only falls a short distance, cleanly and without splashing.

What the Cup Stand is for

The WPM Primus deliberately leaves plenty of space under the brew group, which is practical for tall glasses and brewing vessels. With small espresso cups, this creates a longer drop path. The height-adjustable Cup Stand shortens this distance – continuously, stably, and from the same manufacturer as the machine. Less fall height means fewer splashes, better-preserved crema, and a cleaner workspace.

Good to know before you invest in more accessories: The WPM Primus has its own portafilter design. Standard 58mm baskets fit, but for a naked shot, you'll need WPM's own Naked Portafilter.

The Background: Fall Height and Temperature

Espresso leaves the brew group at around 88–96 °C. Every centimeter of free fall cools it down slightly, and volatile aroma compounds can escape before reaching the cup. This can play a role with light roasts that have fruity notes, as these compounds are temperature-sensitive. How noticeable the difference is depends on many factors – this is our observation, one of many.

Who it's for

For everyone who uses small cups with the WPM Primus and cares about splashes, crema, and a clean workspace. And for everyone who wants to keep their scale dry under the cup.

The Right Setup

The Cup Stand works with the rest of your setup: the complete WPM range in the WPM Collection, barista tools and an affordable, precise scale in the Normcore Collection, with app and flow rate in the Acaia Collection. Freshly ground with a single-dose grinder from the Varia Collection.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the Cup Stand only fit the WPM Primus?

It is designed as an accessory for the WPM Primus. Thanks to its continuous height adjustment, it can also be used with other machines – the crucial factor is whether the footprint fits.

Does the Cup Stand really improve the crema?

A shorter fall path protects the crema emulsion and reduces splashes. How noticeable this is in the cup depends on the machine, beans, and recipe.

Can I see the Cup Stand in person before buying?

Yes, the WPM Primus is on display in our showrooms in Bern and Zurich. Delivery within 2 to 4 working days throughout Switzerland and Liechtenstein.

Questions about the Cup Stand or the Primus? We are available during business hours: office@coffeecoachingclub.ch · coffeecoachingclub.ch

As a coffee roastery, we appreciate such small adjustments: a short fall, a calm cup. For dialing in and calibration, a full-bodied roast like Cozy Chocolate or Nutty Delight is suitable. This is our recommendation, one of many.
