With the fine stainless steel needles, you loosen up the coffee bed, break up clumps, and distribute the powder before tamping – the foundation for even extraction without channeling.
WDT stands for "Weiss Distribution Technique". The Motta coffee distributor brings this barista tool with solid craftsmanship to your counter: a handle made of solid aluminum, fine stainless steel needles, with a holder for a stable stand between extractions.
The thin needles move through the powder, breaking up clumps and loosening compacted areas – for a homogeneous coffee bed.
Pleasant weight, cleanly finished, sits comfortably in the hand – a tool for daily use.
The included holder gives the distributor a fixed place and keeps the needles protected.
WDT works best with freshly ground coffee directly in the portafilter. A few gentle movements are enough – the goal is a loose and evenly distributed bed, not as much movement as possible. Afterwards, you tamp evenly and with consistent pressure. This is our view, one of many.

For everyone with a portafilter machine who wants to reduce channeling and make their extraction more even – at home as well as in gastronomy. Particularly useful with freshly ground coffee from an espresso grinder: the grind level lays the foundation, WDT and clean tamping bring it into the sieve. You can find the right grinders in our coffee grinder selection.
WDT is part of the puck prep. For clean dosing, a dosing funnel or dosing cup can be added, and for compacting, a suitable tamper. Further barista tools can be found in the Normcore Barista Tools and in the Barista Equipment.
It distributes the coffee powder evenly and breaks up clumps that form during grinding. A homogeneous coffee bed extracts more evenly – the water is less likely to find a preferred path (channeling).
The WDT tool is guided into the filled portafilter from above; the needles work within the powder. It is therefore suitable for common filter baskets. If you are unsure, please write to us briefly – we will help.
