Wiedemann WDT Needle Distribution Tool Smoked Oak – distribute your grounds with a dark oak handle
Dark wood in your hand, fine needles in the basket: the Wiedemann WDT with smoked oak handle breaks up clumps in the grounds before you tamp.
WDT stands for Weiss Distribution Technique. The needles draw circles through the coffee until it lies loose and even in the basket. Without dense pockets and loose zones, the water finds no preferred path through the puck during extraction. The result is a more even extraction.
According to Wiedemann, the needles can be changed without tools, and two spare needles are included. The wooden parts are made by the Wiedemann Manufaktur in Baienfurt, Baden-Württemberg. Wood is a natural material: grain and colour vary from piece to piece and change with use.
Every shot remains unique: the bean, the humidity and you yourself change every day. We go by weight ratio and usually start espresso at 1:2. Our opinion is one of many; what matters is that you enjoy it.

Frequently asked questions
What does a WDT tool do for espresso?
It breaks up clumps in the grounds and distributes the coffee evenly in the basket. The water flows more evenly through the puck and channelling becomes less frequent.
Can I change the needles on the Wiedemann WDT?
Yes. The needles are replaceable and, according to Wiedemann, can be changed without tools. Two spare needles are included.
What is the difference between the wood types?
Function and needles are the same for all versions. The difference is the wood of the handle: smoked oak is dark, alongside it there are walnut, oak and olive.
Does the Wiedemann WDT fit the HangUp holder?
Yes. Wiedemann lists the WDT as compatible with the HangUp.
Tip from the roastery: How the grounds feel while you distribute them also depends on the roast. For dense, chocolatey espresso we roast Cozy Chocolate and Nutty Delight, for maximum body without acidity Very Nutty. That is our recommendation, one of many.
