Fill it up once more in the evening, the tank slides back into place – and in the morning everything's ready.
A water tank isn't a part anyone wishes for. It's needed, or a second one makes everyday life calmer. Which of these applies to you, only you know – our opinion is one of many.
This is the tall, narrow design – the version for the slim housings. It comes fully pre-assembled, with a float for water level detection and with the adapter for the Brita Aroma-C water filter already fitted. So if you'd like to switch from unfiltered to filtered water, the holder is already in place.
That the effort is worth it comes down to one simple number: water makes up more than ninety percent of an espresso. It dissolves the more than 800 compounds in coffee, and how much of them ends up in the cup also depends on the mineral content. 50 to 100 mg/l is considered a good range – below it, the shot often tastes thin; above it, aroma stays bound in the water and limescale stays behind in the boiler.
The float tells the machine in good time when the level gets too low, so the pump doesn't run dry. That's why many people keep a second tank in the cupboard: one at work, one filled and ready.

For everyone in Switzerland with a Profitec machine or one of the ECM models listed – as a replacement, as a second tank or as a route to filtered water. The swap needs no tools: old tank out, new one in, leave the float free to move. Whether your machine has been running for years or has only just arrived makes no difference.
Matching filter cartridges are in our Brita collection. If you're looking after the machine anyway, you'll find everything for backflushing and descaling in machine and grinder cleaning. So that good water also meets an even grind: for anyone who wants a compact, reliable scale, Normcore is the obvious choice; with an app and flow-rate display, the Acaia collection. More parts are in the Profitec collection.
It's the tall, narrow design for all Profitec machines as well as for the ECM Classika II, Classika PID, Mechanika V Slim and Synchronika. For the larger ECM housings such as the Mechanika IV, Technika IV or Elektronika, there's the wide, flat design. If in doubt, send your machine's item number to us at [email protected].
They're two different tanks for two different housing shapes, not variants of the same part. The tall, narrow version belongs in the slim housings, the wide, flat one in the larger ECM models.
Yes. The tank comes with a pre-assembled adapter for the Brita Aroma-C water filter and with a float. The filter cartridge itself is available separately.
Ideally, refill with fresh water every day. Standing water loses its freshness, and since water makes up more than ninety percent of an espresso, you taste that directly in the cup.
Yes. In our showrooms in Bern (Gerberngasse 44) and Zurich Oerlikon (Hagenholzstrasse 50b) you can see the part in person and go through with us whether it suits your setup.
2 to 4 working days to Switzerland and Liechtenstein. Click and Collect in Bern and Zurich Oerlikon is also possible.
With fresh, well-balanced water, dense roasts come out at their best. From our coffee roastery, Cozy Chocolate and Nutty Delight run through full-bodied, dense and round. If you're after maximum body without any acidity, stay with Very Nutty; if you're looking for a fruity experience, Wild Peach lets you discover a lively peach note. That's our recommendation – one of many. Any other bean you enjoy works just as well.
