WPM KONOS – 71mm Conical Single-Dose Grinder

A quiet brushless motor, the consistent click of Italian conical burrs, an RPM display showing in real-time what's happening in the grinding chamber. Beans travel down through the bellow, a quick press of the Boost button at the end, and the portafilter is already directly under the spout. No funnel, no transferring, no wall of noise – a workflow that flows into the espresso ritual instead of interrupting it.

The KONOS from WPM's ZP-1 series is a single-dose grinder that defines its individuality through its 71mm conical burr set – currently unique in this size according to the manufacturer. It builds on the ZP-1 platform, combining its tool-free cleaning and stepless calibration with RPM control that can be adjusted depending on the bean and brewing method.

What distinguishes the KONOS

The 71mm conical burr set is manufactured in Italy. Conical burrs produce a different flavor profile than flat burrs: rounder, more balanced, with depth in the middle of the profile. In espresso, this often translates to a denser body with clear sweetness – this characteristic is particularly evident in single origins. Our opinion is one of many; other roasters and baristas prefer flat burrs for espresso because they delineate individual flavors differently.

The adjustable speed from 150 to 420 RPM in ten steps allows for fine-tuning. Lower speeds are gentler on delicate compounds and are often chosen for lighter roasts or for filter, while higher speeds deliver more body and are traditionally used for espresso. The RPM display provides real-time feedback, and the Boost button briefly switches to maximum – useful at the end of the grinding process to push the last few grounds cleanly out of the grinding chamber.

The portafilter fork holds a 58mm portafilter or the included dosing cup directly under the spout. Grinding directly reduces multiple handling and thus losses. The design works with low retention and antistatic properties, allowing bean changes without purging. The matte black aluminum housing is compact and fits into any kitchen and at any bar.

Who the KONOS is made for

The KONOS is for anyone who wants to embrace single-dose grinding with conical burrs and values speed control. Those who switch between several beans per day will benefit from the direct workflow without purging. Those who switch between espresso and filter will use the stepless adjustment and wide RPM range. Those who love single origins will find a flavor profile in the conical burr set that combines espresso character with depth.

It is equally suitable for anyone who wants to set up a second grinder in the cafe for a specific bean or method. Nobody needs a KONOS – those who want one know why. We respect both decisions.

What else you need

A grinder unfolds its full potential in combination with the rest of the setup. The KONOS particularly shows its strengths with saturated brew groups, as installed in many machines from our Coffee Machine Collection – the range extends from compact single boilers to dual boilers. If you want to put together the setup in one step, you'll find a structured overview in the Consultation Tool.

When weighing, precision pays off. Affordable and reliable: the scales from the Normcore Collection – compact, fast, with a clear display. If you want flow-rate display and an app: the Acaia Collection with Bluetooth and real-time data. Both methods work – the choice is a matter of taste, not a difference in quality.

For clean pucks, we recommend tampers, puck screens, and WDT tools from our Barista Equipment. Affordable and precise: Normcore Spring-Loaded Tamper and Normcore Puck Screen. With an uncompromising claim to material and workmanship: the Weber Workshops Collection with Tamper, Moonraker WDT Tool, and Puck Screen.

Frequently Asked Questions

What distinguishes a 71mm conical burr set from 64mm flat burrs?

Conical burrs tend to produce a rounder, more balanced cup with a pronounced body – often perceived as sweeter and denser in espresso. Flat burrs tend to delineate flavors more sharply, which often brings clarity to filter coffee. Both have their merits. Which style you prefer is a personal decision – it's best to experience it on site.

Can I see the WPM KONOS before buying?

Yes, in our showrooms in Zurich (Hagenholzstrasse 50b) and Bern (Gerberngasse 44) you can see the KONOS live and hear the grinding sound. Click & Collect is available at both locations. Not all models are permanently on site, so it's best to contact us briefly beforehand.

What is the KONOS optimized for – espresso or filter?

With its stepless adjustment, the KONOS covers everything from espresso to French Press. Due to the conical burr set and direct 58mm grinding, its focus is clearly on espresso, but it can also be used for filter coffee. Those who brew almost exclusively filter and are looking for maximum clarity should also consider flat-burr grinders like the ZP-1 or grinders from our Coffee Grinder Collection.

How does the Boost button work?

The Boost button temporarily switches the grinder to maximum speed. In low RPM ranges, this helps to drive the last remnants of ground coffee cleanly out of the grinding chamber – ideally in combination with a few pumps of the bellow and a tap on the knocker. This keeps retention consistently low.

How do I clean the KONOS?

The KONOS is designed for tool-free disassembly. The upper grinding chamber can be opened without a screwdriver, the conical burr becomes visible and can be brushed clean with the included brush. For deeper cleaning, there are cleaning tablets from our Cleaning Collection – do not use them in the KONOS, but for the associated machine. The grinder itself is kept mechanically clean.

Delivery and collection – how does that work?

Throughout Switzerland and to Liechtenstein in 2–4 working days. Click & Collect in Zurich and Bern at any time. Financing available. For questions before purchase, you can reach us by e-mail at office@coffeecoachingclub.ch or by phone during business hours.

Roastery Tip

If you really want to get to know the conical burr grinder, start with dense, chocolatey profiles – that's where the depth of the KONOS is most immediately apparent. Cozy Chocolate and Nutty Delight bring exactly these caramel and nutty notes to the cup. Those looking for maximum body without any acidity should reach for Very Nutty. For those who like fruity profiles and want to see how the KONOS shows clarity, Wild Peach is an exciting discovery. This is our recommendation – one of many. Try what you like.
