ECM bean hopper 500 g – bean hopper for the ECM 64 series grinders
You tip in a whole bag at once, and the supply lasts through the week without you having to think about it in the morning.
That's the difference between single dosing and a filled hopper: one way gives you full control over every dose, the other saves you a step in the morning. Both work, both are right. There are no espresso laws and no espresso police – the coffee has to taste good, everything else is a matter of taste. Our opinion is one of many.
With a capacity of around 500 grams, there's weight sitting on top of the grinder, and that has a side effect many people underestimate: the column of beans presses evenly on the burrs and keeps the feed steadier. Particle size and its uniformity determine the quality of the extraction – an even feed is the first step towards that.
What sets it apart
The hopper is transparent, so you can see the fill level at any time. The lid keeps light and air out, and the shut-off at the outlet separates the supply from the burrs when you want to take the hopper off without the beans coming out to meet you.
It's made for the ECM 64 series grinders – the S-Automatik 64, the S-Manuale 64 and the V-Titan 64. ECM specifies a capacity of around 500 grams for this series; a larger version with around 1,000 grams also exists. If you want to give the setup a different character later on: ECM offers a separate stainless steel lid for the same hopper under item number AC100086-00.

Who it's made for
For anyone with an ECM 64 series grinder who wants a second hopper to hand – for a second bean, for switching between weekday and weekend, or simply as a spare. With two hoppers, you switch coffees in seconds rather than minutes.
Also for anyone who has no time for ceremony in the morning but still wants good espresso. No shot can be replicated – the bean, the humidity and the person change every day. That's not a limitation, that's the beauty of it. You'll find everything else around the grinder in bean hoppers and storage canisters.
What goes with it
Even when you grind from a full hopper, you still want to know the result. Among the coffee scales both routes sit side by side: the compact, precise models from Normcore for anyone who wants it affordable – the scales from Acaia with app and flow-rate display for anyone who wants more. Extraction is most honestly described by brew ratio, 1:2 as a starting point.
And because coffee oils stay behind in the hopper as well as in the burrs, care is part of it. You'll find what you need under machine and grinder cleaning. At the machine, the same applies in parallel: backflush daily without detergent, and roughly every fifty shots once with detergent, which takes about five minutes.
Frequently asked questions
Which grinders does this bean hopper fit?
The ECM 64 series grinders: S-Automatik 64, S-Manuale 64 and V-Titan 64. The 54 series grinders need the smaller 250 g hopper.
How much coffee does it hold?
ECM specifies around 500 grams for the 64 series. A larger version with around 1,000 grams also exists for the same series.
Can I take the hopper off without emptying it first?
Yes. The slide at the outlet closes the hopper, and then it can be taken off full and set aside.
Is there a stainless steel lid for it?
Yes. ECM offers a separate stainless steel lid for the 500 g hopper of the 64 series under item number AC100086-00.
Can I see the product before buying?
Our showrooms in Bern (Gerberngasse 44) and Zurich (Hagenholzstrasse 50b) show a wide selection, but not our entire range – the display changes. Drop us a quick line at [email protected] before your visit, and we will check whether the product you have in mind is currently there. If you order online: delivery to Switzerland and Liechtenstein takes 2 to 4 working days.
From the roastery
A 500-gram hopper suits a bean you drink for a while at a stretch. Cozy Chocolate and Nutty Delight stay reliably dense and round over several days, with caramel and chocolate carrying through. If you want maximum body without any acidity, go for Very Nutty. For something fruity, Wild Peach is ready – lively, a discovery for the curious. That's our recommendation, one of many; any other bean works just as well.
