ECM glass bean hopper – glass hopper with stainless steel lid for the 64 series
Light falls through the beans, you can see every single one lying there, and as you refill, they make a bright sound against the side.
A bean hopper is really just a funnel. And yet this one changes your morning, because it makes visible what otherwise disappears behind tinted plastic. Glass doesn't yellow, it doesn't absorb oils, and after years it stays as clear as on day one. The polished stainless steel lid closes it off at the top and strikes the same note as the grinder housing below.
That material and appearance influence enjoyment before the first sip is well documented: vessel, colour and surface measurably change perception. Dopamine is released while anticipating, not only while drinking. Anyone who looks at a grinder in the morning that looks like a piece of a workshop starts the day differently from someone operating an appliance. That's not a side issue – it's part of the ritual.
What sets it apart
The hopper is made of glass, the lid of polished stainless steel. ECM made it for the 64 series grinders – that is, the S-Automatik 64, the S-Manuale 64 and the V-Titan 64. It sits on the same mount as the standard hopper and is simply swapped.
Glass is heavier than plastic, and that weight sits on top of the grinder. For a machine weighing 6.5 kilograms with a wide footprint, that's not a concern – if anything, it makes the setup feel steadier. Whether the switch is worth the extra cost to you is yours alone to decide. Nobody needs it. You either want it – or you don't, and both are completely fine. Our opinion is one of many.

Who it's made for
For anyone who has an ECM 64 series grinder at home and wants to turn the setup from a pure tool into a visible part of the kitchen. It's a gut decision, not a calculated one – and that's exactly why it's legitimate. Whoever makes it knows why.
Likewise for anyone who likes to see how much is left in the hopper without lifting the lid. If you're happy with the standard hopper, on the other hand, you're not missing anything. Accessories never make a setup better than the coffee it produces. We carry more parts for the grinder in our range.
What goes with it
A hopper alone doesn't grind. If the grinder itself is still missing or due for a change, both routes sit side by side among the coffee grinders: the Varia VS3, the Comandante C40 and the hand grinders from Timemore for anyone who wants affordable and precise – the Varia VS6, the EG-1 from Weber Workshops or a Lagom from Option-O for anyone who wants more. Burr sets are like car engines: subjective, and there's no best one.
Because espresso is made by weight ratio and not by time alone – 1:2 as a starting point – a scale belongs with it. Among the coffee scales you'll find the compact, reliable models from Normcore for anyone who wants affordable and precise, and the scales from Acaia with app, Bluetooth and flow-rate display for anyone who wants more.
Frequently asked questions
Which grinders does the glass bean hopper fit?
The ECM 64 series grinders, i.e. the S-Automatik 64, the S-Manuale 64 and the V-Titan 64. There's a separate hopper for the 54 series.
Is the stainless steel lid included?
Yes. The polished stainless steel lid comes with the glass bean hopper.
How do I clean the glass and lid?
By hand with warm water and without leaving detergent residue. Coffee releases oils that settle on the inside wall – an occasional wipe is enough so none of it ends up in the next dose.
What does the switch change in terms of taste?
Nothing in the grounds themselves. It changes what you see and touch – and because design and feel influence enjoyment even before the first sip, that's reason enough for many.
Can I see the product before buying?
Our showrooms in Bern (Gerberngasse 44) and Zurich (Hagenholzstrasse 50b) show a wide selection, but not our entire range – the display changes. Drop us a quick line at [email protected] before your visit, and we will check whether the product you have in mind is currently there. If you order online: delivery to Switzerland and Liechtenstein takes 2 to 4 working days.
From the roastery
When the beans sit visibly in the glass, you look at them more often – and notice sooner when a batch is running out. Cozy Chocolate and Nutty Delight are what we most often have in the hopper: dense, round, with chocolate and nuts to the fore. If you're after maximum body without any acidity, go for Very Nutty. And for the curious, Wild Peach sits right next to them – fruity and lively, a discovery on the side. That's our recommendation, one of many; any other bean works just as well.
