After the shot, a fine film of coffee grounds remains in the basket and on the rim of the portafilter. A few strokes with the round brush and the basket is clean and dry before the next dose goes in.
The brush comes from the Redecker brush makers in Versmold, Germany. The handle is oiled beech, the bristles are nylon, at around 10 cm long and 6 cm in diameter. Brushing dry instead of wiping wet keeps moisture out of the basket, so fresh grounds settle evenly.
Espresso is complex, but it is not rocket science. A clean basket is one of the simplest steps towards coffee that tastes good. Our opinion is one of many.

Tip from the roastery: A clean basket lets the bean speak. For dense, chocolatey espresso we roast Cozy Chocolate and Nutty Delight, for maximum body without acidity Very Nutty. That is our recommendation, one of many.
