Explore more →The C40 sits in your hand, outside on the terrace of the mountain hut. Fresh coffee for the day ahead. Reaching underneath the body with cold fingers, you try to grip the triangular click mechanism, turning two clicks coarser — from 25 to 27 clicks for the V60 instead of the AeroPress. With bare fingers, that works. With gloves, it becomes a test of patience. Clicking the Clix Mate onto the shaft, you feel the solid snap. Suddenly there's a full turning surface to grip instead of a flat geometry. Two clicks, and you feel both clearly. Ready to grind.
That's the Clix Mate Standard / Red Clix in everyday use — Comandante's adapter for the classic triangular clicker geometry of the C40, compatible with both the standard shaft and the Red Clix RX35 upgrade. Made from QTP® polymer with a food-grade silicone lid and an integrated storage capsule underneath. Originally developed for the X25 Trailmaster, the variant built specifically for outdoor setups — where cold fingers and gloves are standard, not the exception. In the CCC range, sourced directly from Hannover through us as a Comandante partner.
Comandante has two different clicker geometries. The Clix Mate Standard / Red Clix only fits one system. Check before buying:
| Grinder and shaft | Clicker geometry | Matching Clix Mate |
|---|---|---|
| C40 MK4 Standard | Classic triangular clicker geometry | Clix Mate Standard / Red Clix (this page) |
| C40 MK4 with Red Clix RX35 upgrade | Classic triangular clicker geometry | Clix Mate Standard / Red Clix (this page) |
| X25 Trailmaster | Classic triangular clicker geometry | Clix Mate Standard / Red Clix (this page) |
| C60 Baracuda (all versions) | GX50 brass clicker (Gold-Clix system) | Clix Mate Gold Clix |
The two geometries aren't compatible with each other. If you see a gold-colored (brass) clicker under the body of your grinder, you need the Gold-Clix variant. If the clicker has a flat, triangular geometry, this variant here is the right one. If in doubt, just ask us — send a photo of the shaft and we'll tell you what fits.
The classic C40 shaft has a compact triangular clicker — precise, but hard to grip with cold fingers or gloves. The Clix Mate adds a considerably larger turning surface with a subtly textured finish, without touching the click mechanism itself. The click feel stays exactly the same.
Anyone who cleans the burrs of the C40 or X25 regularly — a mandatory routine on a hand grinder — knows that the adjustment knob is the limiting factor. With the Clix Mate, unscrewing the shaft fully for cleaning becomes noticeably easier. What used to be fiddly two-finger turning is now a full-thumb turn.
Underneath the food-grade silicone lid sits a small integrated storage capsule. Comandante designed it for outdoor coffee setups — salt, pepper, spices for pasta at the mountain hut, or an emergency reserve portion of beans for the unexpected third espresso. In a café setting, some baristas use the capsule for a cleaning brush, a spare mini screw, or a cupping sample.
Comandante builds the Clix Mate from the same QTP® high-performance polymer used in the Bean-Jars and other accessory parts — dimensionally stable, abrasion-resistant, without warping over the years. The fit sits tight, with no play or loosening in everyday use. Made in Germany.

We regularly see three profiles among inquiries:
Outdoor coffee setups with the X25 Trailmaster or the C40. Hiking, camping, weekends at the hut, bivouacs — anywhere cold fingers or gloves come into play, adjusting the grind setting on the bare clicker becomes an exercise in patience. The Clix Mate solves that. Comandante originally developed the adapter for exactly this scenario.
Home setups with the Red-Clix upgrade. Anyone using the RX35 Red-Clix kit on the C40 has double the clicks per grind range — meaning double the adjustments per bean, too. If you switch between beans often, you benefit from faster adjustment thanks to the extra grip surface.
Professionals and cupping setups. Anyone grinding several different beans per shift on the C40 — for cupping or test brewing, for example — benefits from faster switching between grind settings. Over the course of a day, those seconds add up.
The Comandante Clix Mate Standard / Red Clix can be ordered online at Coffee Coaching Club, or you can visit us in Zürich Oerlikon or Bern for pickup. Delivery Switzerland-wide and to Liechtenstein takes 2–4 business days.
At the showroom, you can try the Clix Mate on your C40 or X25 before deciding. We have both the Standard/Red-Clix and the Gold-Clix variant on site. For questions about compatibility or the Comandante range in general: office@coffeecoachingclub.ch.
No. This variant only fits the classic triangular clicker geometry of the C40 (standard or Red-Clix shaft) and the X25 Trailmaster. For the C60 Baracuda with its GX50 brass clicker, you need the Clix Mate Gold Clix.
No. This variant covers both. The click geometry of the standard and Red-Clix shafts is the same triangular shape — only the number of clicks per grind range differs. The Clix Mate fits both shafts the same way.
All C40 models from MK1 to MK4 — whether with the standard or Red-Clix shaft — have the classic triangular clicker geometry. If your grinder is a C40, the Clix Mate Standard / Red Clix will fit. If in doubt, send us a photo and we'll take a look.
No. The Clix Mate simply sits on the shaft without touching the click mechanism. The clicks feel just as precise as without the adapter, just with a larger turning surface.
Comandante designed it for outdoor coffee setups — salt, pepper, spices at the mountain hut. In everyday home and café use, many users find creative uses for it: a small cleaning brush, a mini cupping reserve, a spare screw. Optional, never mandatory.
No. Clean it with a damp cloth; remove the silicone lid separately if needed and rinse it briefly. Avoid aggressive chemicals and the dishwasher — that protects the material's integrity and fit accuracy.
Yes. The Clix Mate doesn't interfere with grinding at all. Many users leave it mounted permanently and only remove it for cleaning.
Regular cleaning of the burrs every few weeks — by hand with a brush and cloth, no chemicals. For beans with heavy oil, Urnex Grindz is worth using occasionally, provided the grinder is easy to take apart (which is the case with Comandante). More on that in the Grindz entry.
Yes. Coffee Coaching Club has Comandante grinders, Bean-Jars, shaft upgrades like the Red Clix RX35 kit, and adapters like the Clix Mate on site in both showrooms. For questions about choosing a grinder or changing burrs: office@coffeecoachingclub.ch.
The Clix Mate is a small detail that noticeably improves the workflow with the C40 or X25. My suggestion from showroom practice: if you keep several beans in rotation, you benefit especially. The grind setting ends up changing more often, simply because changing it is faster — and that's exactly what a hand-crank grinder allows: bean-specific dial-in without heat-up time or switching machines. With Cozy Chocolate you'll want different clicks than with Wild Peach — and with the Clix Mate, the switch takes two seconds, not twenty. If you're out and about with the X25, you get the added benefit that adjusting the grind with gloves or cold fingers becomes practical in the first place. That's my view from the roastery, one of many.
