La Pavoni Casa Bar PID – Compact Single Boiler with PID Control
On the countertop in the morning, small and tidy: a toggle switch, the pressure gauge twitches, and shortly after, a dense espresso flows into the cup. The Casa Bar PID takes up little space and still puts temperature control in your hands.
The La Pavoni Casa Bar PID is a compact espresso machine with a single boiler, PID control, and a 58mm portafilter, built by La Pavoni in Italy. It is available in black and stainless steel.
PID and Brass Boiler
The brewing temperature is regulated by a PID system – set at 92 °C from the factory and adjustable to your taste. The brass boiler and chrome-plated brass brewing group keep the heat stable and even, ensuring your cup tastes consistent from shot to shot. A shot timer and pressure gauge display brew time and pump pressure.
Temperature is a tool, not a switch for the one right espresso. We extract by weight ratio – 1:2 as a starting point, so about 18g of coffee for 36g of espresso – and adjust grind size, dose, and temperature until it tastes good to us. There is no right or wrong.
Single Boiler – Espresso and Milk
As a single boiler machine, the Casa Bar PID prepares both espresso and milk foam, one after the other: first the shot, then the steam via the multidirectional cool-touch wand, which remains cool to the touch. For daily home use, this is perfectly sufficient for cappuccinos and flat whites. And a single boiler is by no means only for pure espresso drinkers – even those who enjoy milk drinks can get a lot out of it.
Compact and Suitable for Everyday Use
At around 23.5 cm wide, the Casa Bar PID fits almost anywhere. The removable 3-liter tank with a water level indicator makes refilling easy, it's ready to brew in about six minutes from cold, and the cup warming tray provides passive heat. Because the portafilter has the common 58mm size, standard accessories like tampers, puck screens, or bottomless portafilters fit perfectly.

Who the Casa Bar PID is for
For anyone who wants dense, aromatic espresso at home without sacrificing much space – whether it's your first espresso machine or you've been at it for a while. The PID control gives you temperature control, and the setup remains uncomplicated. No prior knowledge is needed.
What goes with it
Freshly ground makes all the difference. In the coffee grinders section, you'll find affordable and precise options like the Varia VS3 or the Comandante as a hand grinder; the Varia VS6 or the Weber Workshops EG-1 offer more flexibility.
For clean tamping and puck prep, it's worth checking out the Normcore Collection (compact and precise) or the Weber Workshops assortment – thanks to 58mm, everything fits. To get your 1:2 ratio right, a scale from the Normcore Collection or, with an app, from the Acaia Collection will help.
How a single boiler differs from a heat exchanger and dual boiler is explained in our deep dive into heating systems; the coffee machine comparison will help you choose.

Frequently Asked Questions
What portafilter size does the La Pavoni Casa Bar PID have?
The Casa Bar PID uses a 58mm portafilter (measured with basket). This is the common standard size, so standard accessories like tampers, puck screens, or bottomless portafilters fit.
Can the Casa Bar PID brew espresso and steam milk simultaneously?
It's a single boiler and does both sequentially: first the espresso, then the steam. There's a short waiting period when switching. For cappuccino and flat white at home, this is perfectly fine.
How precisely can the temperature be adjusted?
Via the PID system, factory set to 92 °C and adjustable. The brass boiler (0.3 L) and chrome-plated brass brewing group ensure stable temperature; a pressure gauge and shot timer help with monitoring.
How long does it take to heat up and how do I maintain it?
From cold, it's ready in about six minutes. Backflush daily with the blind basket without detergent and approximately every 50 shots with detergent; descale regularly depending on water hardness.

From the roastery: With the stable temperature of the Casa Bar PID, dense, sweet profiles come out especially beautifully. We recommend Cozy Chocolate, Nutty Delight, and Very Nutty – chocolatey, nutty, also strong with milk. If you like it bright and fruity, try Wild Peach or Bright Cassis from our coffee beans. This is our recommendation, one of many.
