Superkop – manual lever espresso machine, no electricity needed
Grind the coffee, pour boiling water into the cup, pull the lever six times, and the espresso runs. No electricity at all.
The Superkop is a manual lever espresso machine without buttons, display or electronics. It is made of a small number of parts that can be taken apart and repaired at home. Superkop provides guides for the gas spring, piston seal, tension springs and water cup.
How the Superkop works
Grind the coffee
Grind fresh beans or use ground coffee, fill the portafilter and tamp.
Add boiling water
Place the water cup on the portafilter, pour boiling water into the cup and slide both together into the machine.
Pull the lever
Pull the lever six times, then push it gently to release the piston. How much ends up in the cup is best measured with a scale: 1:2 by weight is a good starting point, not time.
Direct mechanics, visible extraction
The lever pushes the piston directly through hot water and coffee grounds. A gas spring gently returns the lever after the shot. Through the transparent water chamber you see the water level drop while the pressure builds.
The Superkop stands on the included base on your countertop. Alternatively, it can be mounted on the wall; Superkop offers the wall mount separately.
Lever or pump is not a question of right or wrong for us. What matters is that you enjoy the espresso. Our opinion is one of many.

Who it is made for
For anyone who wants to make espresso without electricity, display or app, and guide the shot by hand. The Superkop only needs boiling water from the kettle and freshly ground coffee. More models are in the Superkop collection, other lever machines among our lever espresso machines and in the Flair Espresso collection.
For anyone who wants grinders that are affordable and precise: the hand grinders from Timemore and more hand grinders. If you want more: the grinders from Weber Workshops, all electric models among our coffee grinders. For scales, Normcore is compact and precise, Acaia offers an app and flow rate display. Matching 58 mm tampers are among our tampers.
You can test lever machines and grinders side by side in the comparison workshop in Bern or Zurich, an option, not a requirement. Our advice tool also helps with the choice. A private barista course can be booked separately, financing is available.
Delivery throughout Switzerland and to Liechtenstein in 2–4 working days, Click & Collect in Bern and Zurich. Questions to [email protected] or by phone during business hours.
Frequently asked questions
Does the Superkop need electricity?
No. It works without electricity and without electronics: pour boiling water into the water cup and pull the lever.
How often do I pull the lever?
Superkop specifies six pulls. Then you push the lever gently to release the piston.
Which portafilter is included?
A 58 mm stainless steel portafilter with a double basket for 18 g. 58 mm is the industry standard, so the choice of tampers and accessories is wide.
Can I repair the Superkop myself?
Yes, it is designed to be repaired at home. Superkop provides guides for the gas spring, piston seal, tension springs, and the bottom and seal of the water cup.
Can I see the Superkop before buying?
That depends on whether the Superkop is on display right now. Our showrooms in Bern (Gerberngasse 44) and Zurich Oerlikon (Hagenholzstrasse 50b) show a wide selection, but not the entire range. Drop us a quick line at [email protected] before your visit, and we will check whether the Superkop is currently there.
Tip from the roastery: For a dense, rounded espresso we roast Cozy Chocolate and Nutty Delight, chocolatey, nutty, full-bodied. Anyone after maximum body without acidity goes for Very Nutty; for a fruity, bright experience, Wild Peach is worth it. This is our recommendation, one of many.
