Rhino Thumpa Replacement Top – the new head for your Thumpa
A hundred times a day the portafilter hits the same spot. The dull thud, the puck dropping free, the next shot already running. At some point that thud stops sounding solid and starts sounding rattly: the top has had enough. Tube and base are still in good shape – only the head is done. That is exactly what the replacement top is for.
The top is the upper part of the Thumpa. It sits on the tube, carries the knock rod with its rubber sleeve and absorbs every single strike. It is made of plastic and fits the Rhino Thumpa 300 and the Thumpa 860. Rhino also states that it can be used as a replacement on most commercially available knock tubes.

Tip from our café
Behind the bar in Bern we do not wait for the top to break. As soon as the thud sounds rattly and the rod has too much play in the head, we swap it – a wobbly head eats through the rubber sleeve in weeks instead of months. When we swap, we take the rod and the rubber sleeve out of the old top and fit them into the new one; a drop of oil makes pulling on the rubber sleeve easier. That is our experience from the bar in Bern, not a lab figure.

Does the replacement top fit my Thumpa?
Yes, if you have a Thumpa 300 or a Thumpa 860. Both sizes use the same top; the number simply stands for the height of the tube in millimetres.
Are the knock rod and rubber sleeve included?
No. Only the top is supplied. You order the rod and the rubber sleeve separately when you need them, in the Rhino Thumpa Replacement Rod / Rubber Protector.
Does the top fit another knock tube as well?
Rhino states that it can be used as a replacement on most commercially available tubes. It is guaranteed to fit the Thumpa 300 and the Thumpa 860 – with third-party tubes it is better to measure before you order.
What is the replacement top made of?
Plastic, like the original top of the Thumpa. The tube and the base of the knock box stay exactly as they are.
