Bright Cassis – a vibrant omniroast with a cassis note

Blackcurrant, a bright, clear drive, and a freshness that almost recalls a light summer wine: Bright Cassis is our brightest light omniroast from Ethiopia – energetic, fruity, and made for anyone who wants liveliness in the cup.

We roast it light in our Swiss coffee roastery, on purpose, to bring its cassis note and lively freshness to the front.

    Mountain air from Guji

Bright Cassis comes from Tero Farm in the Ethiopian region of Guji. At 1800 to 2200 metres of altitude, heirloom varieties grow on nutrient-rich volcanic soil, organic-certified – this terroir gives the coffee its distinctive freshness and aromatic depth.

Where our Wild Peach captures the warm sweetness of sun-ripened stone fruit, Bright Cassis feels clear, bright, and alert.

    Light roasted, clear in expression

As an omniroast, Bright Cassis is made for several brewing methods. The light roast brings out its lively acidity and clear berry fruit – in the cup, a precise interplay of cassis, berries, and lively freshness.

Water temperature and grind size steer the expression: finer and hotter brings more sweetness into the espresso, coarser and calmer lets the fruit shine through in the filter.

How Bright Cassis tastes in the cup

As an espresso it turns fruity and lively, with cassis in the foreground. We extract by weight ratio, 1:2 as a starting point – around 18 g of coffee to 36 g of espresso. In the filter or pour-over it shows itself most clearly: bright berry fruit with a long, fresh finish.

There's no right or wrong here – the coffee has to taste good to you, that's the only thing that counts. And because the bean, the humidity, and you yourself change every day, no cup is ever exactly like the last.

Who Bright Cassis is made for

For anyone who loves freshness, clarity, and complexity – and for the curious, looking for a fruity, bright coffee beyond chocolate and nut. Whether espresso, filter, or pour-over: there's room to discover here. No prior experience needed.

    What you need for it

Light beans want an even grind. Among the coffee grinders you'll find affordable, precise options like the Varia VS3, while the Varia VS6 offers more range; for hand grinding there's the Comandante hand grinders.

For filter and pour-over, the brewers from the Hario Collection or the AeroPress – both affordable and versatile; if you want more, the Weber Workshops range has the BIRD. To get the ratio right, a scale helps: compact from the Normcore Collection, with app and flow-rate display from the Acaia Collection.

Want more from our roastery? Browse all coffee beans – like the softer Wild Peach or, more full-bodied, the Cozy Chocolate.

This bean's roast profile was developed by Yalcin, a qualified food chemist with over 15 years of experience in the international flavour industry, most recently as Senior Taste Designer at Philip Morris International. More about his background in our roastery.

From the roastery: Bright Cassis is our liveliest discovery for the curious – light, fruity, and bright. As an espresso we start at 1:2 and grind on the finer side; in the pour-over the cassis note shows most clearly. If you prefer something more full-bodied and chocolatey, reach for Cozy Chocolate, Nutty Delight, or Very Nutty from our coffee beans. That's our recommendation, one of many.

    Order online. Personally supported.

You order directly through our online shop. If you have questions, we're happy to help — online or in person — with experience from our roastery, cafés and showrooms.
