Acaia Lunar – with an upgrade, it becomes the La Marzocco Connected Scale

We're replacing the Acaia X La Marzocco Connected Scale with the Acaia Lunar. With an upgrade licence, the Lunar becomes the La Marzocco Connected Scale: Brew-by-Weight on the Linea Mini R and on the Linea Mini with Connected Board, Grind-by-Weight with the Pico.

Here's how: Order the Lunar. In the La Marzocco app (version 1.7.0 or later), add the scale to the Coffee Station. The app guides you to buy the licence in the Acaia app (100 euros according to La Marzocco, varying slightly by region). The Acaia app installs the new firmware, and then you pair the scale in the La Marzocco app.

Requirements according to La Marzocco: a Lunar with USB-C and a serial number from AL008, and a machine that is online with current firmware (the gateway update is free in the app). The Lunar in our shop is the current generation with USB-C.

Acaia X La Marzocco Connected Scale – Brew-by-Weight for the Linea Mini

The paddle moves forward, the scale tares and starts the timer. At the target weight, the Linea Mini stops the shot on its own. No glancing at the display, no button to press at just the right moment.

The Connected Scale is a joint development by Acaia and La Marzocco. It runs on La Marzocco-specific firmware and is set up via the La Marzocco Home app. A prediction algorithm factors in the last drops that still fall into the cup after the stop. What counts is the weight in the cup, not the value on the display at the moment of stopping.

What the Connected Scale can do

Brew-by-Weight

The scale stops the shot at the set target weight. A prediction algorithm estimates the flow and ends the shot so that the last drops are factored in. This works on the Linea Mini and the Linea Mini R.

Grind-by-Weight

With the La Marzocco Pico and Swan grinders, grinding stops at the set weight. No more weighing by hand.

Integration with the Coffee Station

The scale syncs with the La Marzocco app and the Coffee Station and shows the weight in real time as you grind and brew.

Two doses in the La Marzocco Home app

In the app, you can save up to two target doses; alternatively, there's a free-flow mode, both for Brew-by-Weight and for Grind-by-Weight.

Auto-tare and timer

As soon as the paddle is actuated, the scale tares automatically and starts the timer.

This requires a machine that is online and running current firmware (v1.0rc7 or newer). Depending on the year of manufacture, older Linea Minis need a gateway or IoT kit installed by a technician. The Connected Scale does not work with the Linea Micra or the GS3.

Resistant to interference

The scale and machine ignore unusual readings during the shot, for example when a cup is set down or the scale is touched.

Water-resistant

The housing is designed to cope with liquid spilled at the machine.

Fast, stable measurement

The resolution is 0.1 g, and the timer is built in.

Battery and housing

The battery is charged via USB-C, and the housing is made of aluminium.

We brew espresso by weight, not by time. We grind fine, start at 14.5 grams and work our way up from there, usually to 17 grams, at a ratio below 1:2. No two shots are alike, because the beans, the humidity and how you feel on the day all change. The scale takes care of the measuring; taste makes the decision. Our view is one of many.

For everyone with a Linea Mini or Linea Mini R who wants Brew-by-Weight directly in the machine's workflow. The Acaia X comes ready for the La Marzocco system; no additional licence is needed.

If you already own an Acaia Lunar with USB-C (serial number from AL008): since March 2026, there's a paid upgrade to the same Connected Scale functions, purchased via the Acaia Updater app. The Lunar comes in several colours and also works with other machines.
