Weber Workshops Puck Saver – 58 mm protective disc

You place the thin stainless steel disc on top of the puck, lock in the portafilter and brew. After the shot you knock out the puck and give the disc a quick rinse under the tap – done. Your machine's shower screen stays cleaner, without changing anything about your usual routine.

The Weber Workshops Puck Saver is a thin protective disc made of marine-grade 316L stainless steel, 0.19 mm thick, with 200-micron holes. It sits on top of the puck and acts as a sacrificial layer. Available in packs of 2, 5 and 10 pieces. Coffee Coaching Club is an importer of Weber Workshops.

What the Puck Saver does

Water leaves the shower screen at speed and hits the puck surface directly at the start – this can wash out the top layer and encourage channelling. The Puck Saver buffers this jet. At the same time it catches a large part of the coffee oils and keeps the shower screen cleaner; you simply clean the disc instead of the group head.

Because it is very thin at 0.19 mm, it barely changes the space above the puck – you don't need to adjust your dose. And it's even easier to clean than a thicker puck screen.

At a glance

Hole size 200 microns

Material 316L stainless steel, marine grade
Position on top of the puck
Packs 2, 5 or 10 pieces
Compatibility all standard 58 mm portafilters as well as Weber Unifilter and Unibasket

Puck Saver or puck screen

Both sit on top of the puck and protect the surface and the shower screen. At 0.19 mm the Puck Saver is very thin, leaves the headspace almost unchanged and is particularly easy to clean. The puck screen is a 2 mm thick mesh – sturdier, and it reduces the space above the puck, which can be useful when fine-tuning your dose. If you want to keep the space the same, go for the Puck Saver.

What goes with it

Fits any Unibasket or Unifilter as well as any standard 58 mm basket. For even distribution before brewing, reach for the Moonraker or a Normcore WDT tool; for even grounds, a grinder from our grinder selection.

Frequently asked questions

Why would I need a Puck Saver?

It sits on top of the puck, buffers the water jet from the shower screen and, as a sacrificial layer, keeps your machine's shower screen cleaner. It isn't essential, but it takes some unrest out of the start and saves cleaning effort.

What's the difference between the Puck Saver and a puck screen?

At 0.19 mm the Puck Saver is very thin and leaves the space above the puck almost unchanged. The puck screen is a 2 mm thick mesh and reduces this space, which you can use when dosing.

Do I need to adjust my dose?

No. Because it's so thin, the headspace stays practically the same.

How do I clean the Puck Saver?

Rinse it under water right after brewing. That's all it needs day to day.

Roastery tip

A Puck Saver isn't a must – good espresso works without one too. It keeps the group head cleaner and takes the edge off the water jet, nothing more. If you brew dense, full-bodied roasts like our Cozy Chocolate or Nutty Delight, you'll mostly appreciate the consistent cleanliness. That's our recommendation, one of many.
