You place the fine stainless steel disc on top of the puck before inserting the portafilter. During extraction, the water no longer hits the coffee bed directly but distributes itself over the mesh. And when you look at the shower screen after the shot, it's cleaner than usual.
The Weber Workshops Puck Screen is a 58mm puck screen made of marine 316 stainless steel, with a 150-micron mesh and 2 mm thickness. It sits on top of the puck and makes the start of the extraction smoother. Coffee Coaching Club is the exclusive Swiss importer of Weber Workshops.
The water comes out of the shower screen at speed and directly hits the puck surface at the start. This can erode the top layer and encourage channeling. The Puck Screen acts as a fine mesh in between, breaking the stream and distributing the water more evenly over the bed.
At the same time, it acts as a sacrificial layer and keeps your shower screen cleaner – a large part of the coffee oils remains on the mesh, which you can simply rinse off. And because it adds 2 mm in height, it reduces the space above the puck, which helps in fine-tuning the dose.

Both sit on top of the puck and protect the surface and shower screen. The Puck Screen is a 2 mm thick mesh – robust, and it reduces the space above the puck, which can be useful for dosing. The Puck Saver is significantly thinner at 0.19 mm, leaves the headspace practically unchanged, and is even easier to clean. If you want to deliberately reduce the space, choose the Puck Screen; if you want to keep it the same, choose the Puck Saver.
The Puck Screen is not magnetic – so it cannot be fished out of the knock-box with a magnet. Depending on the machine, the shower screen screw may leave a slight imprint over time. And the 2 mm thickness reduces the space above the puck: so for a full dose, fill a little less or choose a larger basket.
Rinse immediately under water after extraction. A short blast with the steam wand will dislodge fine particles from the mesh. Soaking it occasionally in Cafiza or a coffee-specific cleaner will keep it clean longer.
In combination with the Unibasket or Unifilter, it fits perfectly. For even distribution before extraction, use the Moonraker or a Normcore WDT tool, and for consistent grounds, a grinder from our selection of grinders.
The Puck Screen is available directly in our webshop. Delivery throughout Switzerland and Liechtenstein in 2 to 4 business days. Click and Collect in Bern, Gerberngasse 44 and Zurich, Hagenholzstrasse 50b.
It sits on top of the puck, breaks the water jet from the shower screen, and distributes it more evenly. This reduces erosion on the puck surface and keeps your machine's shower screen cleaner. It's not essential, but many appreciate the calmer start.

Possibly. The 2 mm reduces the space above the puck. With a full dose, it can get tight – so fill a little less or use a larger basket.

A Puck Screen is not a must – good espresso can be made without it. It calms the start a bit and keeps the brew head cleaner, nothing more. Those who brew dense, full-bodied roasts like our Cozy Chocolate or Nutty Delight will most likely notice the difference in consistency. This is our recommendation, one of many.
