The Subscale is a dosing cup with a built-in digital scale. Instead of weighing beans on a separate scale, transferring them into a cup and then grinding, it combines scale and cup in one piece: tap, weigh, tip into the grinder. The display is invisible at rest and only appears on touch.
It doesn't replace a brewing scale, though. The Subscale is a dosing tool, not meant for weighing during the shot or under a pour-over dripper. If you need a flat scale for that, you'll find one in our Acaia Collection. Available from us as the Swiss importer of Subminimal.

The Subscale doesn't have a timer – for timed brewing, you'll still need a separate scale. IPX-4 means splash-resistant: rinsable under running water, but don't soak it and don't put it in the dishwasher. And the roughly 60 g capacity comfortably covers espresso doses but reaches its limit with larger filter amounts. That's our assessment, one of many.
Anyone comparing roasts quickly notices how much the input amount matters: if it varies by one or two grams from day to day, the extraction shifts – regardless of grinder and machine. A consistent dose is the foundation that makes grind size and recipe comparable in the first place. A practical side benefit: if you use a fine water mister against static before grinding (RDT), the IPX-4 rating lets you spray directly into the cup.
For everyone who grinds single-dose daily and appreciates a tidy workflow – scale and dosing cup in one. If you already have a separate brewing scale, this saves you a step. If you brew exclusively pour-over without espresso, you'll get less out of it, since the cup lacks the flat base needed under a dripper.
The Subscale lives in the single-dose workflow: it pairs well with grinders from our Varia Collection as well as the Weber Workshops Collection, the Subminimal Flick WDT for distribution after grinding, barista tools in the Normcore Collection and, as a brewing scale, the Acaia Collection.
No, it's a dosing tool with a scale function. For timed extraction, you'll need a separate scale with a timer or a timer app.
The Tritan material is food-safe and withstands 100 °C for up to two hours, and the cup holds 120 ml. However, it doesn't have a brewing-scale function; we recommend not extracting directly into the cup.
Wash it under running water with a mild soap. Don't submerge it, don't put it in the dishwasher, and don't use aggressive cleaning agents.

As a coffee roastery, we deliberately weigh the same way when comparing: the same dose for Cozy Chocolate and Nutty Delight, the same grind size, the same time – that way you taste the difference in the roast, not in the dosing. That's our recommendation, one of many.
