Subminimal Flick WDT Tool – retractable needles for puck preparation
Buy the Subminimal Flick WDT Tool in Switzerland: a WDT tool with retractable needles, stand and magnetic holder. Available from us in Bern and Zurich.
A press of the button, the needles extend, and you draw them through the freshly ground coffee in the basket. Then a flick of the wrist, and the needles disappear back into the handle. Coffee Coaching Club is the official Swiss importer of Subminimal.
WDT stands for Weiss Distribution Technique: before tamping, fine needles break up clumps in the grounds and distribute them evenly in the basket. This gives the water a more even path through the puck.
Features of the Flick
Retractable needles
The button at the end extends the needles, and a quick flick of the wrist retracts them again. According to Subminimal, a magnetic mechanism handles the retraction. This way the tips are not left exposed on the counter.
Always within reach
The Flick stands in its aluminium stand, clings to the machine via the magnetic disc or hangs on the self-adhesive magnetic wall mount. Stand and wall mount are included.
Fine needles against clumps
The needles break up clumps and distribute the grounds evenly before you tamp. There is no need to tap the portafilter.
Click and flick
The button engages with a distinct click, and retracting takes one short movement. The housing is aluminium with a matte anodised finish.

Who the Flick is made for
For anyone who wants an even coffee bed before tamping and is looking for a tool whose needles are stowed away after use. You will find more tools in the WDT Tools collection and in the Subminimal collection.
Which machine and grinder go with it is shown by our coffee machine advice tool.
What goes with it
For anyone who wants a WDT distributor that is affordable and precise: the Flick or the WDT Tool from the Normcore collection. If you want more: the Moonraker from Weber Workshops. The same applies to tampers and puck screens: Normcore affordable and precise, Weber Workshops for anyone who wants more.
For dosing to a tenth of a gram: compact scales from Normcore or scales with app and flow rate display from the Acaia collection. Even grounds start at the grinder, for example the VS3 from the Varia collection.
Frequently asked questions
What does a WDT tool do?
It loosens freshly ground coffee in the basket before tamping and breaks up clumps. Afterwards the grounds are evenly distributed.
Which needles come with the Flick?
0.5 mm needles are fitted at the factory so they survive shipping without bending. The box contains two sets of 0.35 mm spare needles and an Allen key for changing them.
How are the needles stowed?
A press of the button extends them, and a quick hand movement retracts them again via a magnetic mechanism. The Flick stands in its stand, clings magnetically to the machine or hangs on the wall mount.
Which roasts does WDT help with?
According to Subminimal, WDT makes extraction more even, especially with light roasts.
How quickly can the Flick be delivered?
Delivery in 2–4 business days to Switzerland and Liechtenstein. Click & Collect in Bern and Zurich Oerlikon is possible.
Tip from the roastery: Evenly distributed grounds are a good starting point for dense, round espresso made with Cozy Chocolate and Nutty Delight. If you are looking for maximum body without acidity, reach for Very Nutty. For the curious who fancy fruit: Wild Peach. As a starting point we use a ratio of 1:2 by weight. This is our recommendation, one of many.
