Twelve, perhaps fourteen grams – a slim, precise dose. And yet, much is decided here: hundreds of tiny holes, each exactly the same size, allow water to flow through the puck at the same speed everywhere. The first drop in the bottomless portafilter shows it – calm, even, without channeling.
No one needs a basket like this for good espresso – the original basket does its job. You want it because the cup becomes clearer and rounder. This is one of many possible decisions, and we respect both directions.
E&B-LAB is IMS's experimental laboratory, and this basket shows what's possible there. Instead of punched holes, the hole pattern is created by electroforming: 715 holes, each with a constant 200 micrometers, evenly distributed. In addition, there is a membrane integrated into the basket that keeps the puck stable during extraction and reduces channeling. You taste this as an even, rounded extraction – density, sweetness, caramel, and nut clearly in the glass. Espresso is extraction via a weight ratio, usually 1:2; how cleanly this is achieved depends on the even flow – this is precisely where this basket comes in. It is our observation that the choice of basket fundamentally changes the flavor profile.

For anyone working with lean doses and seeking maximum consistency – all budgets are welcome. The effect is most visible in a bottomless portafilter. Those who dose a little higher will find the sister variant in 14/16 g (H22). You belong here because you love coffee – not because you use a particular basket.
The basket looks best in a bottomless portafilter. To make the puck level: the tamper collection – affordable with Normcore, premium with Weber Workshops. Against clumps beforehand: WDT Tools. Plus the matching grinder. All other baskets: Precision Basket Collection.
Instead of punching the holes, they are galvanically formed. This results in 715 holes of very consistent size (200 µm) and even distribution – the basis for a calm, even extraction.
It keeps the coffee puck more stable during extraction and reduces channeling. In the cup, this means: more even, rounder, clearer.
It is made for 58-mm portafilters (rim-Ø 70 mm, B70 standard) and fits common E61 and 58-mm brew groups. If in doubt, tell us your machine model.
This basket is designed for a lean dose of 12 to 14 g. Those who prefer a little more coffee can choose the 14/16-g variant (H22).
Our showrooms in Bern (Gerberngasse 44) and Zurich (Hagenholzstrasse 50b) show a wide selection, but not our entire range – the display changes. Drop us a quick line at [email protected] before your visit, and we will check whether the product you have in mind is currently there.
A consistent basket rewards dense, aromatic beans the most. From our coffee roastery, Cozy Chocolate and Nutty Delight brew full-bodied and round. For maximum body without any acidity, stick with Very Nutty; for those who like it fruity, Wild Peach reveals a lively peach note. Our recommendation – one of many.
