So the steam knob looks finished again instead of chipped

The cover closes off the steam valve knob from the outside. It sits exactly where your hand reaches every time you froth milk – and where the cloth regularly runs over the edge when you wipe down.

So that is where it breaks: first a hairline crack at the edge, then a chipped piece, and at some point it falls off. Functionally this changes nothing about the valve, visually it changes a lot. We stock the cover individually under part number D.4.048.

When it is time

A replacement is worthwhile if:

  • the cover is missing or only sits loosely,
  • the edge is cracked or chipped,
  • the surface is scratched or discoloured,
  • milk residue or limescale has collected underneath.

Who it is for

For businesses where the machine is in full view of guests, and for anyone who wants to replace a broken visible part without swapping the whole knob right away. The cover is changed from the outside; no work is done on the valve itself.

What goes with it

We stock the other control elements under La Marzocco accessories and spare parts. For specific models, take a look at Linea Classic spare parts and Linea PB spare parts. The whole category is under Service parts and spare parts.

From our workshop in Bern and Zurich

Milk that runs under a knob cover smells after two days – that is why we wipe once around the steam knob at every shift change, not just the wand. That is our routine, not a manufacturer requirement, but it has already prevented many a complaint. Afterwards we make a cappuccino as a check, usually with Cozy Chocolate; for straight espresso we use Nutty Delight or Very Nutty. More under Coffee beans.

Returns excluded

Service parts are excluded from exchange and return. They are sourced specifically for each order and cannot be resold once they have been installed or test-fitted on a machine. So before ordering, check the model, year of manufacture and serial number of your machine – or drop us a quick message and we will work out the fit together. Your rights in the case of defective goods remain unaffected.

Frequently asked questions

What does LCS mean for this part?

It is the manufacturer's version designation for this model series. If you are not sure whether your machine belongs to it, send us the serial number.

Is the steam valve knob included?

No. Only the cover is supplied; the knob is a separate part.

Can I change it myself?

Yes, it is changed from the outside. Let the machine cool down first; the valve itself stays untouched.

What is the part number?

D.4.048. If you have this number from a service document, you are in the right place.

Can I pick up the part at the showroom?

Yes. We are in Bern at Gerberngasse 44 and in Zurich at Hagenholzstrasse 50b. Drop us a quick message and we will have it ready for you.
