Dull burrs make themselves known quietly. First the shot takes a few seconds longer, then you have to grind finer than before, and at some point even that stops helping: the espresso runs unevenly, the crema gets thin, and while grinding, the grounds smell slightly warm rather than of coffee.
This spare part is the burr kit for the La Marzocco Jay grinder, part number 1077. Burrs are wear parts – they last a long time, but not forever, and they are replaced as a pair, never individually.
When you have to keep turning the grind setting finer over weeks to hold the same extraction time. When the extraction time fluctuates at the same setting. When the grinder has become louder or takes longer for the same amount. And of course immediately if a foreign object has got into the grinding mechanism – a single small stone is enough to chip an edge.

The burrs sit inside the grinder, directly on the drive. We deliberately do not give step-by-step instructions here. The grinder must be disconnected from the mains, the burrs must sit flat and free of tension, and the grind setting is then readjusted and checked. If one burr sits at an angle, the two run against each other – and the new kit is worn out again after just a few kilos.
For cafés and roasteries whose Jay grinds many kilos a day and where the grind is no longer right. For service companies as part of planned maintenance. And for anyone who has taken over a used Jay and doesn't know how much the burrs have already been through.
The grinder itself is here: La Marzocco Jay. We also carry the complete bean hopper, the bean hopper lid and the coffee funnel. In the same area sits the grinding chamber with magnets. Everything else: Coffee grinder accessories and spare parts and Service parts.
Workshop tip from Bern and Zurich
Our routine, not a manufacturer's specification: new burrs need a few hundred grams of coffee until they have bedded in. That's why, after the swap, we deliberately grind a small amount through before making the final grind adjustment – otherwise you end up setting it for a state that no longer exists two days later. In between, we dry-clean the grinder, if necessary with Puly Grind Verde. And for dialling in we always use the same bean: Nutty Delight, Cozy Chocolate or Very Nutty from our coffee beans.
Returns excluded
Spare parts are excluded from exchange and return. They are sourced specifically for each order and cannot be resold after installation or a trial fitting on the machine. So before ordering, check the model, year of manufacture and serial number of your machine – or drop us a short message and we'll clarify the fit together. Your rights in the case of defective goods remain unaffected.
That depends on throughput, roast level and whether a foreign object has ever got into the grinding mechanism. We deliberately don't give a general figure in kilos here – your grinder's behaviour is more reliable: if you have to keep grinding finer over weeks, they're due.
The manufacturer lists it as a burr kit under number 1077. The documentation doesn't include a parts list, and we won't make one up – just ask us and we'll look inside the package before shipping.
We advise against it. Burrs bed in as a pair. Pairing a new one with a used one costs you grind quality and usually the new burr as well.
Yes. After every burr change, the grind setting needs to be readjusted and checked with a shot.
Yes. We have two showrooms: Bern at Gerberngasse 44 and Zurich at Hagenholzstrasse 50b. Let us know in advance and the part will be ready for you.
