The steam wand is the part that has to endure the most and gets the least attention. It sits in the milk every time you froth, gets hotter than a hundred degrees, and afterwards it is wiped off and forgotten. Inside, steam runs through a narrow tube; outside, milk protein builds up and bakes on at this temperature.
At some point the wand can no longer be saved – scaled up inside all the way into the steam tip, dull and tarnished outside, or simply bent because it was once pushed aside a little too firmly. Then you replace it completely. This part has the part number A219908566.
Before you order a new wand: in the vast majority of cases the wand is not broken, just blocked. Limescale and baked-on milk narrow the holes, and the steam only comes out thinly and in the wrong direction. A night in a suitable solution, the steam tip unscrewed and the holes cleared – and often it froths again like on the first day. You'll find the products for this under Machine and grinder cleaning. Only if that doesn't help or the wand is mechanically damaged is a replacement worthwhile.
The wand is due when it is visibly bent or can no longer be moved into a usable position. When the thread at the connection is damaged and it no longer seals tightly. When, even after descaling, only some of the holes release steam because a crust has formed inside the wand that can no longer be removed. Or when the surface is so scratched that milk residue can no longer be wiped off completely – then it's also a question of hygiene.

The wand sits on a steam-carrying connection. We deliberately do not publish step-by-step instructions for this: the machine must be depressurised and cooled down, and the connection must be tightened so that it seals, but not overtightened. Anyone who doesn't do this routinely risks a leak right next to the steam outlet. A professional does it in minutes and then checks it again under pressure.
For everyone for whom descaling no longer helps, and for service companies that want to keep a replacement wand in stock. If you're not sure whether this version fits your machine: send us the serial number and we'll check before you order.
Wands look confusingly similar and yet are not freely interchangeable. What matters is which model series it sits on, whether a valve and knob are included and which number the manufacturer lists for it. We carry nine wands in the Rocket catalogue, in three groups. Because the documentation doesn't state the length, thread size or material for any of them, the part number is the reliable identifier – that's why we always include it.
Appartamento, Mozzafiato, Giotto and Cellini share three items: the complete steam wand for Appartamento, Cellini, Giotto and Mozzafiato (part number R290003611) is the wand without a valve, the complete steam wand with valve, without knob, for Appartamento, Mozzafiato and Giotto (part number R299906015) comes with a valve but without a knob, and the complete water wand for Appartamento, Cellini, Giotto and Mozzafiato (part number R290003612) is the water wand for the same model series. The last two numbers differ by a single digit – R290003611 versus R290003612 – but they are two different parts: one for steam, one for hot water.
R58, Porta Via, Boxer and R9V each have their own wand: the complete steam wand for the R58, without steam valve (part number A219904651), the steam wand for the Porta Via (part number A219906168), the steam wand for the Boxer (part number R219905307) and the complete steam wand for the R9V (part number M219906488). None of these are cross-compatible, even if the tubes look similar.
Without a documented model series there are two more wands in the catalogue: a complete steam wand (part number A219908566) – that is, this product – and a second complete steam wand (part number M219906508). For both, the documentation names no model, only the number. If you have service documentation with one of these numbers in front of you, you're in the right place; if you're searching by machine model, it's better to send us a quick message.
At the end of a steam wand sits the steam tip, and that is what scales up first – not the wand. We carry them individually: the 1.2 mm steam tip for R58 and R60, the 1.5 mm steam tip for R58 and R60 and the two-hole 1.5 mm steam tip for the Appartamento. Often a descaling bath for the steam tip is enough, and the wand stays where it is.
If you're not sure which wand is on your machine, send us the serial number and we'll check the fit before you order. With these parts, that's not just a polite phrase: returns are excluded for original spare parts.
The matching steam tips, gaskets and valves can be found under Rocket accessories and spare parts. The entire range is under Service and spare parts, and the products that tackle the cause under Machine and grinder cleaning.
Our routine from Bern and Zurich – not a manufacturer specification, but what applies at our counter: purge immediately after frothing and wipe with a damp cloth while the wand is still hot. Whatever doesn't come off in those five seconds will later only come off with chemicals. Once a week we unscrew the steam tip and soak it overnight. Afterwards we test with a cappuccino – Nutty Delight for a balanced one, Cozy Chocolate for a round one and Very Nutty when the coffee should come through the milk. More of these under Coffee beans.
No returns
Original spare parts are excluded from exchange and return. They are procured to order and cannot be resold after installation or a test fitting on the machine. So before ordering, check the model, year of manufacture and serial number of your machine – or send us a quick message and we'll clarify the fit together. Your rights in the event of defective goods remain unaffected.
The wand is supplied as a complete unit. We're happy to clarify in advance whether the steam tip is included in the hole size you want – just send us a quick message.
If the steam comes out weak but evenly, limescale is usually the cause. If it comes out at an angle or only from individual holes, the blockage is in the steam tip. If the wand is bent or the thread is damaged, only a replacement will help.
Rocket has used different connections over the years. Send us the serial number of your machine and we'll check the fit.
