A machine like the R9V rarely stands still. The wand goes into the milk a hundred times a day, gets purged, wiped, dipped in again. What happens over years at home happens here over months: the tube scales up on the inside, the surface turns dull, and at some point it no longer sits where the barista wants it, because it has been knocked once too often.

Descale first, then replace
Before a new wand goes on the invoice: check whether it is just the tip. With high milk throughput, protein settles in the holes and bakes on, and limescale builds up from the inside as well. Unscrew the tip, soak it, clear the holes – in many cases that brings back full steam. The products for this are in Machine and grinder cleaning. A replacement is only worth it once the wand is mechanically worn out or the constriction can no longer be cleared.
When it is due
The wand is due when it is bent and can no longer be positioned properly. When the connection thread is damaged and stays damp despite a new seal. When, after thorough descaling, only some of the holes still release steam. And when the surface is so scratched or corroded that milk residue can no longer be removed without trace – in a café or restaurant, that is the point where there is no more discussion.

Important for installation
The connection carries steam under pressure. We deliberately do not give out step-by-step instructions here: the machine must be depressurised and cooled down, and the tightening torque decides whether the connection seals or the thread gets damaged. In a business that has its machine serviced regularly anyway, the service technician takes care of this along the way and then checks it under pressure.

The steam and water wands in the Rocket catalogue
Wands look confusingly alike and still cannot be swapped at will. What matters is which model series it sits on, whether the valve and knob are included, and which number the manufacturer lists for it. We carry nine wands in the Rocket catalogue, in three groups. Because the documentation gives no length, thread size or material for any of them, the part number is the reliable feature – which is why we list it everywhere.
Appartamento, Mozzafiato, Giotto and Cellini share three items: the complete steam wand for Appartamento, Cellini, Giotto and Mozzafiato (part number R290003611) is the wand without valve, the complete steam wand with valve, without knob, for Appartamento, Mozzafiato and Giotto (part number R299906015) comes with valve but without knob, and the complete water wand for Appartamento, Cellini, Giotto and Mozzafiato (part number R290003612) is the water wand for the same series. Two of these numbers differ by a single digit – R290003611 versus R290003612 – and they refer to two different parts: one for steam, one for hot water.
R58, Porta Via, Boxer and R9V each have their own wand: the complete steam wand for the R58, without steam valve (part number A219904651), the steam wand for the Porta Via (part number A219906168), the steam wand for the Boxer (part number R219905307) and the complete steam wand for the R9V (part number M219906488) – that is, this product. Nothing fits across models here, even if the tubes look similar.
Without a documented model series, two more wands are in the catalogue: a complete steam wand (part number A219908566) and a second complete steam wand (part number M219906508). For both, the documentation names no model, only the number. If you have service documentation with one of these numbers in front of you, you are in the right place; if you are searching by machine model, it is better to drop us a quick message.
At the end of a steam wand sits the tip, and it scales up first – not the wand. We carry them individually: the 1.2 mm steam tip for R58 and R60, the 1.5 mm steam tip for R58 and R60 and the two-hole 1.5 mm steam tip for the Appartamento. Often a descaling bath for the tip is enough, and the wand stays where it is.

Our routine from Bern and Zurich – not a manufacturer specification, but our own workflow: on machines in continuous use, we remove the tips once a week and soak them overnight, not only once the steam starts to weaken. Original spare parts are excluded from exchange and return. They are sourced specifically for each order and cannot be resold after installation or a test fitting on the machine. How often does a wand need replacing in a café or restaurant?
That depends on throughput and care. If you purge daily and soak the tip weekly, it will last considerably longer than if you only wipe it.
