The wand of the machine that travels – and therefore takes more knocks
The Porta Via is built to be transported. That is exactly what puts the most strain on the steam wand. It doesn't sit quietly in a kitchen; it gets packed and unpacked, lies in a case next to other equipment and takes knocks that a stationary machine never experiences. A bent wand is considerably more common on this machine than on any other.

Descale first, then replace
If the steam gets weak, the wand is rarely to blame – usually the tip is blocked. On a machine that runs on changing water while travelling, this happens even faster than at home. Unscrew the tip, soak it overnight in a suitable product, clear the holes. You'll find the products for this in Machine and grinder cleaning. Only when the wand is mechanically damaged is there no way around replacing it.
When it's due
The wand is due when it is bent – the most common reason on the Porta Via. When the connection thread is damaged and the joint stays damp. When only some of the holes still work after descaling. And when you can no longer position it properly for packing because it no longer stays where you turn it.

Important for installation
The connection carries steam under pressure. We deliberately don't provide step-by-step instructions for this: the machine must be depressurised and cooled down, and the thread doesn't tolerate blind tightening. On a compact machine like the Porta Via, everything is also packed closely together. A specialist does the swap quickly and then checks it under pressure.

The steam and water wands in the Rocket catalogue
Wands look confusingly alike and still can't be swapped at will. What matters is which series it fits, whether the valve and knob are included, and which number the manufacturer lists for it. We carry nine wands in the Rocket catalogue, in three groups. Because the documentation doesn't state the length, thread size or material for any of them, the part number is the reliable feature – which is why we list it everywhere.
Appartamento, Mozzafiato, Giotto and Cellini share three items: the complete steam wand for Appartamento, Cellini, Giotto and Mozzafiato (part number R290003611) is the wand without valve, the complete steam wand with valve, without knob, for Appartamento, Mozzafiato and Giotto (part number R299906015) comes with a valve but without a knob, and the complete hot water wand for Appartamento, Cellini, Giotto and Mozzafiato (part number R290003612) is the water wand for the same series. The last two numbers differ by a single digit – R290003611 versus R290003612 – and refer to two different parts: one for steam, one for hot water.
R58, Porta Via, Boxer and R9V each have their own wand: the complete steam wand for the R58, without steam valve (part number A219904651), the steam wand for the Porta Via (part number A219906168) – that is, this product, the steam wand for the Boxer (part number R219905307) and the complete steam wand for the R9V (part number M219906488). Nothing here is interchangeable, even if the pipes look similar.
Without a documented series, there are two more wands in the catalogue: a complete steam wand (part number A219908566) and a second complete steam wand (part number M219906508). For both, the documentation names no model, only the number. If you have service documentation with one of these numbers in front of you, you're in the right place; if you're searching by machine model, it's better to drop us a quick line.
At the end of a steam wand sits the tip, and that is what scales up first – not the wand. We carry them individually: the 1.2 mm steam tip for R58 and R60, the 1.5 mm steam tip for R58 and R60 and the two-hole 1.5 mm steam tip for the Appartamento. Often a descaling bath for the tip is enough, and the wand stays where it is.

Our routine from Bern and Zurich – not a manufacturer specification, but what we tell people who take the machine to events: before packing, turn the wand downwards so that it lies in the shadow of the housing, and pack the case so that nothing presses against it from the side. That makes the most common damage almost disappear. And because the water changes on the road: purge the steam after every use and flush the tip. For dialling in on site we like to use Nutty Delight, because it stays forgiving on unfamiliar water, Cozy Chocolate for the sweeter option and Very Nutty for strong milk drinks. No returns
Original spare parts are excluded from exchange and return. They are procured to order and cannot be resold after installation or a test fitting on the machine. So before ordering, check the model, year of manufacture and serial number of your machine – or drop us a quick line and we'll clarify the fit together. We advise against it. The pipe is thin-walled, and the bend creates a weak point that can burst under steam pressure.
