You place the cup on the scale, lock in the portafilter and start the shot – the scale tares automatically, the timer runs along, and on the bright LED display you see the weight rise in real time. No guessing, no second device for timing. It's exactly this workflow that makes the difference between a random shot and a repeatable one.
Coffee Coaching Club is an importer of Varia. We keep scales and accessories in stock.
The AKU is designed as a working scale for home and café use. It offers automatic tare and timer modes for espresso, plus a fully manual mode in which you control every variable yourself. The high-quality load cell measures to 0.1 g across the entire range, read on a clear 9-digit LED display. The housing is made from a cast alloy and CNC-machined to a 0.02 mm tolerance – stable, durable and insensitive to heat. Rated IPX5, the AKU is protected against water jets from any angle.

The AKU works with any portafilter machine, for example from La Marzocco, Rocket or ECM, and goes with every grinder from the Varia collection. If you're looking for a particularly flat travel scale, the AKU Mini is the slimmer sister; if you need more capacity and a colour display, the AKU PRO is worth a look.
As an importer of Varia, we have the AKU in stock. Delivery throughout Switzerland and to Liechtenstein in 2 to 4 working days, Click and Collect in Bern and Zurich. If you have questions, reach us at [email protected] or by phone during business hours.
Yes. For espresso there's auto-tare and timer, for everything else the manual mode. The 0.1 g accuracy is enough for both brewing methods.
On many machines, yes. If it needs to be particularly flat, the AKU Mini at 13 mm high is the better choice.
Yes, to IPX5 against water jets from any angle – robust enough for everyday café use.
If you want reproducible shots, weigh both dose and yield. Set a ratio of 1:2 as your starting point – 18 g of coffee, 36 g in the glass – and feel your way towards your taste from there. It's not a law, just a good start. That's our recommendation, one of many.
