Varia AURA Smart Kettle 1.5L – Kettle with PID temperature control & high-flow spout
Sunday morning, guests for brunch. You need coffee for four, matcha for two, and hot water for tea. The Varia AURA Smart Kettle 1.5L is on the counter, the OLED display shows 94°C, and you pour the first French press. Then back to the base – the memory function maintains the temperature. Second pot. Third pot. Then turn it down to 76°C for matcha. 1.5 liters is enough without refilling. PID temperature control in 1°C increments, high-flow spout with flow control, 304 stainless steel. Available in two versions – Standard and FLUX Edition – from us at the Coffee Coaching Club as the official Varia importer in Switzerland .
Standard vs. FLUX Edition – what is the difference?
Both versions share the same technology: PID control, 1200W Strix heating element, OLED display, memory function, smart wake-up, and the high-flow precision spout. The difference lies in the handle.
| feature | standard | FLUX Edition |
|---|---|---|
| Handle design | Classic handle with counterweight for balance | Ergonomic FLUX handle with multiple grip positions |
| Heating time (500ml, 25→100°C) | Approximately 3 minutes (220/240V) | Approx. 2 min 35 sec (220/240V) |
| PID temperature control | Identical – 1°C increments, 40–100°C | Identical – 1°C increments, 40–100°C |
| heating element | 1200W Strix | 1200W Strix |
| spout | High-flow with low/medium/high flow control | High-flow with low/medium/high flow control |
| Display, Wake-Up, Memory | Identical | Identical |
| Colors | Black-and-white | Black-and-white |
The standard version has a classic handle with an integrated counterweight for good balance when pouring. The FLUX Edition offers an ergonomically shaped handle with multiple grip positions. Which version is more comfortable depends on how you hold the kettle. The handle is more noticeable when the 1.5L version is filled than with the smaller 0.8L version. Due to its design, the FLUX Edition heats up slightly faster (approximately a 25-second difference for 500ml).
What distinguishes the AURA 1.5L from the 0.8L
The key difference, besides the capacity, is the spout : While the 0.8L version has a gooseneck spout for precise pour-over, the 1.5L version offers a high-flow spout with stepless flow control . This allows for both slow and fast pours, making it suitable for a wider range of applications: cupping, French press, tea, Americano, or simply as a kitchen kettle with temperature control.
The lid of the 1.5L version is made of plastic with a stainless steel interior (the 0.8L version has a lid made entirely of stainless steel). The total weight is 1.39 kg – despite almost double the capacity, only slightly heavier than the 0.8L version.

Who is the AURA Kettle 1.5L suitable for?
The AURA 1.5L is suitable for anyone who needs more volume than the 0.8L version offers: cupping sessions, French press (typically 500–700ml per infusion), larger pour-over methods such as Chemex for multiple cups, matcha at 75–77°C for the whole family, or simply as a versatile kitchen kettle with temperature control.
The high-flow spout is not a gooseneck – it is intentionally wider to accommodate both slow and fast pours. Those who primarily use a single-cup pour-over with a V60 and require maximum pouring control will be better served by the AURA 0.8L gooseneck version .
Known limitations
- Operation when lifting: As with the 0.8L version, you should press the button before lifting the boiler from the base. Otherwise, the device will restart when you put it back.
- No gooseneck: For very slow, precise pour-over pours (V60 single cup), the 0.8L version is the better choice due to the finer stream.
- Weight when fully filled: 1.39 kg empty weight plus 1.5 kg water equals just under 3 kg. Handling can become noticeable when the kettle is full – the FLUX handle is often an advantage here.
Coffee Coaching Club tip: Temperature for larger brewing quantities
With larger infusions, the water cools down more during pouring than with a single pour-over. The AURA's memory function helps here: You can place the kettle on its base in between infusions, and it will maintain a stable temperature.
For French press, we recommend our Cozy Chocolate at approximately 94°C – the contact time is longer with French press, so a slightly lower temperature can be beneficial. The Nutty Delight is also well-suited. For matcha at 75–77°C, precise temperature control is helpful – even a few degrees more can make the matcha bitter.

Roastery tip
The AURA 1.5L is the kettle for mornings when you want more than just one cup. French press with our Cozy Chocolate at 94°C, coarse grind, 4 minutes – the chocolate is rich and smooth. Chemex with Nutty Delight at 93°C, slightly finer grind – nutty, clear, a great conversation starter. The memory function keeps the temperature stable between brews.
