Timemore Chestnut C5 Pro – Hand Coffee Grinder with 42 mm Burr
A few calm turns of the crank, an even grind in the catch cup and more clarity and sweetness in the cup. Buy the Timemore C5 Pro in Switzerland, see it live in Bern and Zürich.
The Chestnut C5 Pro is a hand grinder made of stainless steel and aluminium with the new 42 mm conical burr S2C-042-III. Timemore designs it for pour-over, and occasional espresso is possible too. This version is the C5 Pro in black with an etched, textured finish. Coffee Coaching Club is a partner of Timemore.
What is new about the Chestnut C5?
Larger S2C-042-III burr
The C5 replaces the 38 mm burr of the C3 with a new 42 mm burr with seven cutting edges and all-purpose geometry. According to Timemore, this gives a sharper grind profile, more clarity and a more consistent taste, even as the cup cools. Compared with the C3S, Timemore states a 19 percent larger burr, a 16.23 percent longer grinding path and 5 percent more uniform grinding. To achieve this, the internal structure was redesigned and the body slightly widened, without the grinder losing its compact, travel-friendly shape.
Redesigned grind adjustment
The adjustment was completely rebuilt and engages with clear, tactile clicks. On the C5 Pro, one rotation covers all settings: 48 clicks of 0.031 millimetres each. The finest usable setting is step 3, because a buffer of three clicks acts as a practical zero point and protects the burr from damage.
Lab-tested
According to Timemore, the C5 has the tightest manufacturing tolerances of all grinders in the C series. The narrower grind profile widens the room for extraction, for more clarity and sweetness. Timemore's technical advisor is Matt Winton, 2021 World Brewers Cup champion.

Who it is made for
For everyone who grinds by hand and wants an even, repeatable grind for filter coffee, at home or on the go. If you mainly grind for espresso and want finer steps, Timemore offers the C5 ESP Pro with 0.015 millimetres per click. Burrs are like engines: subjective, there is no objective best. Our opinion is one of many.
You can find more models among our hand grinders and all coffee grinders. Our advice tool helps you narrow it down. In the comparison workshop you can test grinders side by side in Zürich, an option, not a requirement. A free advice appointment is also available.
What goes with it
For filter coffee, affordable and precise: a dripper from Hario or the AeroPress. If you want a special brewer: the BIRD from Weber Workshops. For everyone who wants scales that are affordable and precise: Normcore. If you want an app and flow-rate display: Acaia. For espresso by hand, a lever machine from Flair Espresso is a good match.
Delivery throughout Switzerland and to Liechtenstein in 2 to 4 working days. Click and Collect in Bern, Gerberngasse 44 or Zürich, Hagenholzstrasse 50b. Questions: [email protected] or by phone during business hours.
Frequently asked questions
What is the S2C-042-III burr?

What is the difference between the C5 Pro and the C5 ESP Pro?
The grind adjustment: the C5 Pro has 48 clicks of 0.031 millimetres each, and one rotation covers all settings. The C5 ESP Pro works with 0.015 millimetres per click and needs three rotations for all settings. Timemore designs the C5 Pro for pour-over and the C5 ESP Pro for espresso.
Is the C5 Pro suitable for espresso?
According to Timemore, the C5 Pro is well suited to pour-over and occasional espresso. If you grind espresso regularly and want very fine steps, the C5 ESP Pro is the better choice.

Can I see the Timemore Chestnut C5 live before buying?
That depends on whether the Timemore Chestnut C5 is currently on display. In our showrooms in Bern (Gerberngasse 44) and Zürich Oerlikon (Hagenholzstrasse 50b) we show a wide selection, but not the entire range. Send us a short message before your visit at [email protected] and we will check whether the Timemore Chestnut C5 is currently in store.
Tip from the roastery: The even grind of the C5 brings out dense, chocolatey and nutty profiles well, such as Cozy Chocolate or Nutty Delight. For maximum body without acidity, Very Nutty is a good fit, and for a fruity pour-over to discover, Wild Peach. For espresso, 1:2 is a good starting point. That's our recommendation, one of many.
