Descaling pad for the water tank – limescale prevention for home espresso machines
The descaling pad sits directly in the water tank of your espresso machine and counteracts limescale formation there, before the water reaches the boiler and lines.
Water makes up most of every espresso. Whatever limescale dissolves or settles in the tank ends up sooner or later on the heating element, valves and group head. The pad works exactly where the water enters the machine: in the tank, with no modification and no tools.
What the pad does – and what it does not
The pad is a preventive measure. It complements the regular descaling of your machine, but does not replace it. The maintenance instructions of the machine manufacturer remain decisive.
For flavour, what counts is the mineral content of the water. For espresso, we see a range of 50–100 mg/l as a good starting point. How to put together your coffee water deliberately is explained in our guide Composing your own coffee water. Our opinion is one of many, and in the end what counts is that you enjoy your coffee.

Who it is made for
For everyone with an espresso machine with a water tank, whether single boiler, heat exchanger or dual boiler. The pad needs no plumbed-in water connection and no adjustment.
If you also want to filter the water, you will find filter cartridges in our BRITA Collection. Cleaners, descalers and care accessories are in machine and grinder cleaning. And if you are still looking for the right machine: our advice tool narrows down the selection from our espresso machines.
Frequently asked questions
How do I use the descaling pad?
You place the pad in the water tank of your espresso machine. There it counteracts limescale formation in the tank water.
Does the pad replace descaling the machine?
No. It complements the care, but does not replace periodic descaling. The maintenance instructions of your machine are decisive.
Do I also need a water filter?
That depends on your tap water. For espresso, we see a mineral content of 50–100 mg/l as a good range. You will find filter cartridges in the BRITA Collection.
How fast is delivery?
Delivery throughout Switzerland and to Liechtenstein in 2–4 working days. Click & Collect in Bern and Zürich Oerlikon is available.
Tip from the roastery: Because water makes up most of every cup, we roast with balanced water in mind. With it, Cozy Chocolate and Nutty Delight show their chocolate and nut notes clearly and roundly. If you are looking for maximum body without acidity, you will find it in Very Nutty. That is our recommendation, one of many.
