A Chemex has a waist. A syphon has two globes and a narrow neck. You can't get into either with a kitchen sponge – and the brown film that settles on the bottom after a few brews simply stays there.
This fine brush is slim enough for the neck and long enough for the bottom. Once around, a quick rinse, and the glass is clear again – without having to help things along with detergent.
For cleaning syphons and other glass carafes such as the Chemex. In other words, anywhere the neck is narrow and the coffee film still needs to go.

For everyone who brews with glass – and who knows the difference between a carafe that looks clean and one that actually is. In a café it belongs next to the sink; at home, in the drawer with your brewing gear.
Fits the HARIO coffee syphon NEXT 600 ml and all carafes from the Chemex collection. For grinder and counter, use the fan brush. More helpers under machine and grinder cleaning.
In our experience, warm water and this brush are all glass needs – detergent tends to leave a film in the syphon that you can taste in the next brew. That's our house rule from behind the bar, not a lab finding. When you brew fresh afterwards: Nutty Delight for the classic cup, Cozy Chocolate for chocolatey notes and Very Nutty for maximum body. All roasts under coffee beans.
Yes, that's what it's made for. It's slim enough for the narrow neck and still reaches the bottom.
Yes. Syphons are one of its main uses – you can brush out both glass chambers with it.
Usually not. Warm water and the brush are enough for the normal coffee film. For stubborn residue, an espresso machine cleaner in the soaking water helps.
In principle, yes – it's built for narrow glass necks. We describe it here for what we use it for ourselves.
Yes, in Bern (Gerberngasse 44) and Zurich (Hagenholzstrasse 50b) you can see it in person.
