The Skerton Pro is the revised version of one of Hario's best-known hand-grinder classics. We carry Hario at Coffee Coaching Club.
The ceramic conical burr delivers an even grind, stays sharp for a long time, and does not heat the grounds – ideal for filter, French Press, and pour-over. Compared to the original Skerton, on the Pro the grind adjustment sits below the burr, making it easier and more stable to set; the reinforced crank and the optimized rubberized table pad give more grip while grinding. The collection container is made of glass.
Burrs are like car engines – subjective, there is no single best one. For espresso-fine, highly consistent grinding, electric grinders or hand grinders with a steel cone such as the Comandante are usually more consistent. That's our observation, one of many.
| Burr | Ceramic conical burr |
| Grind adjustment | stepless, below the burr |
| Collection container | Glass |
| Drive | Hand crank (reinforced) |
| Suitability | Filter, French Press, pour-over |
| Origin | Hario, Japan |
For everyone who wants to grind by hand, appreciates a larger glass container, and mainly brews filter and French Press. Those who want to grind espresso-fine and very consistently should look at the Comandante or electric coffee grinders.
A brewer like the V60 NEO 02 or an AeroPress, filter paper and a gooseneck kettle from the Hario collection, plus a scale from the Normcore range. Beans like the round Nutty Delight or the fruity Wild Peach.
It is made above all for filter, French Press, and pour-over. Espresso-fine, very even grinding is more consistent with steel-cone hand grinders or electric grinders.
The Pro has the grind adjustment below the burr, a reinforced crank, and an optimized non-slip base – making grinding more stable and even.
Ceramic. Ceramic burrs stay sharp for a long time and do not heat the grounds.
Gladly. You can experience it live in Bern and Zurich Oerlikon.
Ground by hand, fresh into the filter – a nice, calm routine for pour-over and French Press. It turns round and sweet with Nutty Delight, bright and fruity with Wild Peach. That's our recommendation, one of many.
