IMS Competition B702TCH28.5E – Convex, 58 mm, 18–22 g (bottomless only)
In a bottomless portafilter, the espresso converges into a single, central stream – calm, glossy, focused. This is precisely what the convex base of this basket is designed for: it precisely directs the coffee towards the center during extraction.
Nobody needs a competition basket to pull good espresso – the original basket does its job. You want it because the extraction becomes clearer, rounder, and more beautiful in a bottomless portafilter. This is one of many possible decisions, and we respect both directions.
What makes this basket special
The "C" in the name stands for Convex: the convex base directs the flow to the center and creates a focused central stream in the bottomless portafilter. The 715 round holes with a conical cross-section in a hexagonal pattern are a patented IMS innovation – for a dense crema and even flow to the rim. Ridgeless and made of highly polished AISI 304 stainless steel: less coffee residue, easier knocking out, long lifespan. Espresso is extraction based on a weight ratio, usually 1:2; what you taste is density, sweetness, and a long finish. It is our observation that the choice of basket fundamentally changes the aroma profile.

Who it's for
For anyone who loves the focused central stream in a bottomless portafilter and doses high (18–22 g) – any budget is welcome. Important: At 28.5 mm high, this basket is exclusively for bottomless portafilters; it is too tall for most standard portafilters with a base. Those who dose lower or use a standard portafilter should look at the flat Competition variants. You belong here because you love coffee – not because you use a specific basket.
What goes with it
A must for this basket: a bottomless portafilter. To level the puck: the tamper collection – affordable with Normcore, premium with Weber Workshops. To prevent clumps beforehand: WDT Tools. Plus the right grinder. All other baskets: Precision Baskets Collection.

Roastery Tip
A consistent basket rewards dense, aromatic beans the most. From our coffee roastery, Cozy Chocolate and Nutty Delight extract full-bodied and round – in a bottomless portafilter, a beautiful, dense central stream. If you are looking for maximum body without any acidity, stick with Very Nutty; if you like fruity notes, discover a lively peach note with Wild Peach. Our recommendation – one of many.
