Varia ORBI PRO – the ORBI with Home Dock and a second scale
The ORBI stands in the Home Dock, with the cup beneath it. Two scales work at the same time: one in the base of the dock, one in the cup. You see what goes into the brew and what arrives in the cup.
At its core, it is the same ORBI as in the portable version: espresso, filter coffee and capsules in one device, 130 ml boiler, a true 58 mm group head, PID control (0.1 °C) and 4000 mAh battery. In Switzerland, you can buy the Varia ORBI PRO from us as the official Swiss importer of Varia, online or in Bern and Zurich.
At World of Coffee 2026 in Brussels, the ORBI platform received the Best New Product Award from the Specialty Coffee Association (category Commercial Coffee Preparation & Serving Equipment).
From recipe to cup
Getting the recipe onto the ORBI
In the app, you download a recipe from roasters or creators or create your own: dose, target yield, temperature and brewing phases. Under “My Device” you check the recipe, save changes and sync it to the ORBI via Bluetooth or Wi-Fi.
Following the instructions
The touchscreen guides you through coffee, brew unit and water. In PRO mode, the ORBI waits for stable readings at the weighing steps and tares between steps before the brew starts.
Letting the ORBI brew
You start the recipe, and the ORBI runs through the temperature and the pressure or flow phases. The cup scale measures the coffee and stops at the target weight. According to Varia, with the dose specified in the recipe, the brew ends within 0.1 g of the target yield.
Two scales, one recipe
The scale in the cup measures the output and provides the value for the automatic stop. The scale in the Home Dock tracks the change in weight of the brewer including its contents, adding a view of the input. Both measure in 0.01 g increments. We grind fine, start at 14.5 g and work our way up, usually to 17 g, at a ratio below 1:2. With a 16 g dose, the target in the cup is therefore under 32 g.
With filter coffee, the second scale shows how much water goes into the brew and how much beverage arrives, because part of the water stays in the coffee grounds.
The technology behind it
Cold water in, brewing temperature out
The integrated 130 ml boiler heats water to the recipe temperature. 60 ml for a typical espresso takes about 2–3 minutes from 24 °C, a full tank about 5 minutes to 92 °C. Starting with hot water is faster and saves battery.
58 mm espresso with pressure profiling
A true 58 mm portafilter and 58 mm group head, plus a gear pump developed specifically for the ORBI, running at 12,000 rpm. You program pre-infusion and the pressure curve in the app, and the ORBI runs through the phases.
On battery or on a USB-C cable
According to Varia, a full battery is enough for about 6–8 espressos with hot water (92 °C) or 2–3 with room-temperature water, depending on the recipe. The ORBI charges at 30 W via USB-C and also brews while connected to the power adapter.
With the precision basket
According to Varia, the ORBI PRO comes with the ORBI Precision Espresso Basket: 58 mm, 20 g, straight walls, a 0.8 mm thick base and 650 laser-drilled holes with a diameter of 0.26 mm, formed from a single piece of 420 stainless steel.

Who it's for
For the coffee corner at home where you want to develop, compare and refine recipes: espresso in the morning, filter in the afternoon, a capsule now and then. If you mostly brew on the go, the portable ORBI will serve you well; Varia also sells the Home Dock separately. You'll find both in our Varia Collection.
Coffee, roast, grind size and the preparation of the coffee bed still influence the extraction. The ORBI controls and measures the brew; you judge the taste. Whether you prefer someone else's recipe or your own is your decision. Our opinion is one of many.
A grinder belongs with the ORBI. Affordable and precise: the grinders in our Varia Collection or a hand grinder from our hand grinders. If you want more from your burrs: Weber Workshops and Option-O. For preparation in the 58 mm basket, there are tampers, WDT tools and puck screens, affordable from Normcore or machined from Weber Workshops.
Our advice tool helps you narrow down which machine suits you, or you can ask Jackson, our AI advisor. A free consultation appointment is possible in the showroom, by phone or virtually. In our Espresso Machine and Grinder Comparison, we show you machines and grinders in operation, side by side, in an hour reserved for you, in Zurich. Financing available.
Frequently asked questions about the Varia ORBI PRO
What is the difference between the ORBI PRO and the ORBI?
The ORBI PRO consists of the ORBI brewer, cup and Home Dock. The dock adds a second scale in the base, which works together with the scale in the cup. The portable ORBI only has the cup scale. The brewing system and brewing methods are the same.
What do the two scales show?
The cup scale measures what arrives from the brew and stops it at the target weight. The scale in the dock tracks the change in weight of the brewer including its contents, making the input visible. Both measure in 0.01 g increments.
Which basket comes with the ORBI PRO?
According to Varia, the ORBI Precision Espresso Basket: 58 mm, 20 g, straight walls and 650 laser-drilled holes with a diameter of 0.26 mm.
Which capsules and paper filters fit?
Varia describes the capsule module as compatible with Nespresso-format capsules. For filter coffee, the ORBI needs Varia's flat FLO 45 paper filters.
Can I see the ORBI PRO before buying?
Yes, in our showrooms in Bern (Gerberngasse 44) and Zurich Oerlikon (Hagenholzstrasse 50b); not every model is set up at all times, so ask in advance at [email protected]. If you order online, we deliver within 2–4 working days throughout Switzerland and to Liechtenstein.
Roastery tip: Beans you know well are ideal for refining. As an espresso reference, we like to use Nutty Delight or Cozy Chocolate, and for maximum body without acidity Very Nutty. For filter, our light omniroasts Wild Peach and Bright Cassis are a good match. This is our recommendation, one of many.
