Renz Silicone Grease for Espresso Machines and Coffee Grinders – food-safe for group head, gaskets, and O-rings

You turn the portafilter in, and instead of a dry grinding sound you feel a soft, even resistance: the gasket gives gently, the handle sits snugly, the shot starts calmly. That smooth feeling comes from a razor-thin film of food-safe silicone on your machine's seals.

The Renz Silicone Grease is made exactly for that. A small tube that makes a noticeable difference – and a piece of care ritual that connects you with your machine.

Why a thin silicone film changes so much

O-rings and gaskets are elastomers – elastic materials that only seal cleanly when they stay supple. Without care, they dry out, start to grip, and wear faster. A thin film of silicone grease wraps protectively around the material, keeps it elastic, and lets moving parts glide smoothly without sticking.

The grease is odorless and tasteless, colorless, and neutral toward plastics and elastomers. It doesn't dry out and stays stable across a wide temperature range of about -40 °C to 200 °C – exactly where water, steam, and pressure come together in your machine. Because it's food-safe, it also belongs in the spots that come into contact with water and coffee.

How often you grease is not a strict rule. Some people care for their seals after every thorough cleaning of the brew unit, others when something starts to feel stiff. That's our view – one of many. What matters is that your machine feels good and your coffee tastes great.

Who the Renz Silicone Grease is made for

For anyone with a coffee machine at home who wants it to run smoothly. The grease works for the brew unit of a super-automatic machine just as well as for the gaskets and O-rings of a portafilter machine, the steam wand, the coupling, or the milk container. Brands like Jura, Saeco, DeLonghi, Melitta, Philips, Siemens, Bosch, or Nivona are no obstacle – the grease works across brands.

Whether your machine is small and understated or has a big presence on the counter: care belongs to both, and no setup is too simple or too grand for it.

What pairs well with it

A well-maintained seal is part of the care routine – the rest lives in our Machine and Grinder Cleaning: from cleaning the group head to descaling. That way not just the seal but the whole machine stays clean.

This grease doesn't stay with the machine, by the way: on grinders like the Varia VS3 and VS6, it's often used to keep the grind adjustment smooth. If you're looking for a coffee grinder that's affordable and precise, the Varia VS3 or the Comandante C40 serve you well; if you want more, look at the Varia VS6 or the Weber Workshops EG-1. You'll find the matching machine in our espresso machines – and if you're unsure, our machine comparison advisory tool can help.

Frequently asked questions

What can I use the Renz Silicone Grease for?

For O-rings and gaskets on coffee machines: the brew unit of a super-automatic machine, the gaskets of a portafilter machine, the steam wand, the coupling, or the milk container. It's also often used on grinders like the Varia VS3 and VS6, for example to keep the grind adjustment smooth. Anywhere two parts need to meet tightly and still move.

Is the silicone grease really food-safe?

Yes. The grease, made in Germany, is food-safe, odorless and tasteless, and colorless – it doesn't change the taste of your coffee.

Does the grease also work with my machine's brand?

It works across brands, including brew units from Jura, Saeco, DeLonghi, Melitta, Philips, Siemens, Bosch, and Nivona, and it's just as suitable for seals on portafilter machines.

How much silicone grease do I get?

You get a single tube of 6 g. Since each seal only needs a razor-thin film, that's enough for many applications.

How often should I grease the seals?

There's no strict rule. Many people grease after a thorough cleaning of the brew unit, or when something starts to feel stiff. You decide what feels right for your machine.

Can I see the product before buying?

Gladly. You can experience the Renz Silicone Grease live in our showrooms in Bern (Gerberngasse 44) and Zürich (Hagenholzstrasse 50b). Online, we deliver in 2–4 business days to Switzerland and Liechtenstein.

A tip from our roastery

When the machine runs smoothly again, the next espresso tastes twice as good. For the majority, we recommend something rich and dense: Cozy Chocolate with its cocoa notes, or Nutty Delight with roasted hazelnut and full crema.

If you want maximum body without any acidity, stick with Very Nutty. And for anyone who wants to discover a fruity experience, Wild Peach with ripe peach is waiting. That's our recommendation – one of many, and every bean is welcome to find its moment with you.
