ECM stainless steel milk pitcher – milk jug in 360 ml and 600 ml

The steam wand dips in, a soft draw of air at the surface, and under your hand the wall of the pitcher slowly grows warmer.

That very moment is why the shape of a milk pitcher matters. The milk needs to be able to spin, and for that it needs room – but not too much. That's why ECM offers two sizes in bright stainless steel: 360 ml for smaller rounds, 600 ml when you're filling bigger cups or making two at once.

The pitcher in detail

There's a measuring scale on the inside. It lets you measure the milk before you start instead of guessing – the easiest way to foam that turns out similar every time. The spout is shaped for latte art and focuses the stream; the handle is ergonomically designed and keeps your hand steady.

Temperature helps decide what you taste: it determines which compounds dissolve and how sweet the milk tastes in the end – higher gives more body, lower more aroma. A stainless steel pitcher passes that warmth straight to your hand, and your hand reads it faster than any thermometer.

There's also a second, quieter effect: vessel, colour and material measurably change our perception. Bright stainless steel on the counter says something different from a coloured plastic jug, and because dopamine is already released in anticipation, that first impression is part of the enjoyment. Our opinion is one of many – if you see it differently, you're just as right.

Who it's for

For everyone who makes cappuccino, flat white or latte at home – no matter how long they've been doing it. The measuring scale takes the guesswork out of the routine, and that helps with the first cappuccino just as much as with the thousandth.

And for everyone who is just starting to pour latte art. The shaped spout makes the first attempts calmer – not because it does the work for you, but because it focuses the stream. No budget is just a beginning here, and there's no right or wrong. The coffee has to taste good; that's the only rule you need.

What goes well with it

Milk foam lives from the espresso underneath, and the espresso lives from the grinder. Among our coffee grinders you'll find both routes: affordable and precise, the VS3 from the Varia Collection, a Comandante C40 or a Timemore as a hand grinder – if you want more, go for the VS6, the EG-1 from Weber Workshops or a Lagom from Option-O. Burr sets are like engines in cars: subjective, there's no single best.

A coffee scale belongs alongside, so the brew ratio leads and not the clock – 1:2 is the usual starting point. The Normcore scales are compact, precise and reliable; if you want app, Bluetooth and flow-rate display, go for Acaia. You'll find the matching machines in our range of espresso machines.

Frequently asked questions

Which size suits me?

That depends on what you drink most often. The 360 ml sits lightly in the hand and is enough for one or two smaller cups. The 600 ml gives the milk more room to spin and suits you if you fill bigger cups or make two at once.

What is the measuring scale on the inside for?

It lets you measure the amount of milk before you dip in the steam wand. That way you work with the same amount every time, and the foam becomes more comparable – instead of guessing anew each time.

How do these pitchers differ from the 450 ml Heritage Line model?

These two are made of bright stainless steel and have a measuring scale on the inside. The 450 ml Heritage Line pitcher has a copper look on the outside and a marking on the inside. It's a separate version, not a third size of the same series.

Does the pitcher work with every espresso machine?

Yes. A milk pitcher isn't tied to a brand – it works with any steam wand. Whether ECM, Rocket, Profitec or another machine makes no difference.

Can I see the product before buying?

Yes. You can see our range in person in Bern at Gerberngasse 44 and in Zurich at Hagenholzstrasse 50b. If you order online, delivery takes 2 to 4 working days throughout Switzerland and to Liechtenstein.

From the roastery

Dense, sweet roasts come through best in milk. Cozy Chocolate brings chocolate and caramel, Nutty Delight nut, depth and a long finish – both hold their own against milk. Very Nutty gives maximum body with no acidity at all, and Wild Peach is the fruity discovery for anyone looking for something different in their cappuccino. That's our recommendation, one of many – any other bean works too.
