Ascaso Barista T PLUS 2023 – Multi-Group Commercial Machine

Half past ten in the morning, the first rush is through. Orders slow down, the rhythm settles back into a calmer gear. The machine has been running for five and a half hours, the hand finds the side steam lever without looking. Three seconds, a small turn, done. On the second group, the next shot runs in parallel, programmed for weeks at nine bar and ninety degrees – because this bean needs exactly that. The Barista T PLUS 2023 doesn't put on a show. It does its job.

What defines this machine

The Barista T PLUS is Ascaso's compact Multi-Group line – T-technology like the larger Big Dream T, but packed into a footprint of 700mm width in the 2-group standard version. Each brew group has an independent heating circuit and its own PID control of plus/minus 0.1 degrees. The steam boiler operates separately and delivers constant pressure even when both groups are used in parallel. The entire water circuit runs in AISI 316 stainless steel – no metallic taste baggage in the cup, not now and not in ten years.

Thermal insulation on the brew groups and steam boiler, an extra heating element per group, an anti-splash system and boiler insulation all come standard on the T PLUS 2023. That's what distinguishes it as the T-PLUS variant from the narrower Barista T One line. The side steam levers remain the ergonomic signature – shorter hand movements than front-mounted knobs, faster in the workflow when two baristas work in parallel.

Configurations

The Barista T PLUS 2023 comes in four configurations, and which one you choose depends on what your counter looks like and what you need. Standard versions are usually deliverable within 2 weeks. For some models, production is commissioned and made to order after payment is received.

1-group in white with wood – discontinued model, while stock lasts. For very small counters, pop-up concepts, atelier cafés or concept stores with low volume. T-technology in its most compact variant.

2-group Standard (700 × 475 × 535 mm) – the classic for mid-sized cafés and bistros. Full steam boiler with 8.5 liters, two steam outlets for parallel frothing, the familiar professional footprint.

2-group COMPACT (560 × 475 × 535 mm) – the same functional scope as the Standard version, but 140mm narrower. The trade-off: a smaller steam boiler with 4.5 liters instead of 8.5. For cafés with a tightly measured counter, hotel bars, small bakeries – anywhere every centimeter counts and the reduced steam boiler is enough, because parallel milk frothing rarely pushes the limit.

3-group (920 × 475 × 535 mm) – for higher throughput, several baristas working in parallel, peak times with sustained rushes. Three independent brew groups, three profiles running simultaneously.

Who it's for

The Barista T PLUS 2023 is the direct, tactile variant of the T-PLUS line. Anyone working with a fixed bean lineup – a house blend, maybe a second seasonal bean, that's it – doesn't need the 2024's display every day. The five presets per group are programmable here too, just via buttons and a knob instead of touch. Once dialed in cleanly, the machine runs the same profile for months.

For a café with a loyal regular clientele, a bistro with a classic espresso menu, a hotel bar built around a house blend – this is the honest choice. Less electronics, fewer potential service points, the same T-technology at the core. Anyone wanting fast profile switching across several beans in a day is better served by the T PLUS 2024 or Big Dream T. Our opinion is one of many.

The COMPACT variant is the answer for anyone who needs two brew groups but not 700mm of counter. At 560mm wide, it fits between the till and the sink, where the Standard version would bump up against the edges. The smaller steam boiler (4.5 instead of 8.5 liters) is entirely sufficient for most smaller café scenarios.

Feel free to come by in Bern (Gerberngasse 44) or Zürich (Hagenholzstrasse 50b). Commercial machines of this class aren't always permanently on display in the showroom – with a few days' notice, we make sure the machine is really there when you arrive.

What you need to go with it

A classically operated machine pairs well with a classically designed grinder. From our Mahlkönig Collection for the 2-group T PLUS, we recommend the E64 WS or the E65 GbS – Grind by Weight, precise to a tenth of a gram, robust burrs for daily continuous operation without digital gimmicks. For the 3-group variant with higher throughput, the E80 GbS is worth it.

Anyone who relies on single-dose grinding because the beans change or freshness is the top priority will find in the grinder hub the Mazzer Mini G GBW – compact, reliable, with a clearly defined grinding chamber – or the Mahlkönig X64 SD for classic single-dose grinding without display gimmicks.

For the scale, a professional level is recommended: the Acaia Pearl S or Lunar delivers real-time flow rate display – the bridge between analog machine control and digital recipe control. Anyone who wants to document and reproduce shots can't get around it.

For cleaning supplies the usual applies: Urnex Cafiza for a daily backflush without detergent, and every few days one with detergent. Five minutes of effort, a noticeably longer lifespan for the gaskets.

And the water – most of an espresso is water, and mineral content in the ideal range of 50–100 mg/l fundamentally changes the aroma profile. With Brita filtration or Apax Labs mineralization drops, the profile can be dialed in precisely. With a fixed water connection, that shows up every day in every cup.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where can I buy the Ascaso Barista T PLUS 2023 in Switzerland?

Directly at the Coffee Coaching Club – partner of Ascaso in Switzerland. Order through the shop or in person at the showroom in Bern (Gerberngasse 44) or Zürich (Hagenholzstrasse 50b). Delivery throughout Switzerland and to Liechtenstein.

How does the T PLUS 2023 differ from the T PLUS 2024?

The 2024 version has a capacitive display for direct access to all parameters, additional tube insulation on the brew group and steam boiler pipes, an illuminated rear logo and the inox rail custom mount. The 2023 operates classically via knobs and a dial pressure gauge. Both have the same T-technology, the same five presets per group, the same boiler insulation and thermal insulation as standard. Anyone who doesn't need the display is well served by the 2023.

What's the difference between Standard and COMPACT?

The COMPACT variant is 560mm wide instead of 700mm – so 140mm narrower – and has a smaller steam boiler with 4.5 liters instead of 8.5 liters. Otherwise functionally and mechanically identical. For smaller cafés with a tightly measured counter and moderate milk frothing, it's the more compact choice.

The 1-group version is marked as discontinued – what does that mean?

The 1-group Barista T PLUS 2023 (white with wood) is no longer newly produced by the manufacturer. While stock lasts, it's available – for concrete availability, we check with Ascaso on request. For most cafés, the 2-group is the relevant one anyway.

What special equipment is available?

Light with customer logo for individual branding on the front, and raised groups with 12.5 cm cup clearance for latte macchiato glasses. Both available as a factory customization, orderable directly in the Ascaso Special Equipment. For special requests, write to us at office@coffeecoachingclub.ch.

Can I see the machine live before buying?

Come by in Bern or Zürich. Commercial machines of this class aren't always permanently on display in the showroom – with a few days' notice, we make sure the machine is on site.

From the Roastery

When the menu is fixed and the house roast stays consistent, you get the full potential out of the Barista T PLUS 2023 with a dense, balanced bean. Cozy Chocolate or Nutty Delight – both full-bodied, with a pronounced chocolate note and a long finish. Exactly what most café guests look for in an espresso cup, and what keeps them coming back. For regulars who appreciate maximum body without acidity, a second group is worth setting up with Very Nutty. And for seasonal curiosity, Wild Peach has its place. Beans are a personal matter; our recommendation is one of many.
