Weber Workshops Really Nice Tamper – Self-Leveling Tamper for 58mm, 54mm & 49mm
Do you tamp slightly crooked every morning – and wonder why your shot tastes different than yesterday?
A crooked tamp creates uneven density in the puck. Water preferentially flows through the thinner side – channeling occurs before extraction has even begun. The Weber Really Nice Tamper solves this mechanically: a self-leveling head that compresses the puck perfectly flat every time – no electronics, no app, just precision.
Why at the Coffee Coaching Club?
As the official Swiss dealer for Weber Workshops, we have the Really Nice Tamper in all sizes and colors in stock. In our showrooms, you can feel the silky-smooth self-leveling for yourself – the difference from cheaper spring-loaded tampers is immediately noticeable.
What distinguishes the Really Nice Tamper
Self-leveling, purely mechanical: The tamping head automatically aligns horizontally under pressure – no matter how your hand is positioned. 9 kg spring pre-installed; a 12 kg spring is included for more resistance.
Three sizes: 58mm (58.55 mm OD – perfect fit in Unifilter/Unibasket and any standard 58mm basket), 54mm (53.50 mm – for Breville/Sage machines like Barista Express, Bambino, Infuser), 49mm (49.50 mm – for Olympia Cremina and La Pavoni pre-Millennium). Base kits for conversion sold separately.
Anti-Vacuum Design: The fit is tight enough for even compression, but without creating a vacuum – your puck remains intact.
Exposed-Angle against powder build-up: Where coffee powder gets stuck between the leveling plate and the base in other tampers, Weber has incorporated an open angle that allows powder to escape by itself.
Material: Aluminum, stainless steel, brass. Handles in Silver or Onyx (anodized), optional Teak or Walnut wood.
Coffee Coaching Club Tip: Why Level-Tamp changes extraction
A perfectly level puck is the basic prerequisite for homogeneous extraction. If one side of the puck is denser than the other, the brew water (at 9 bar pressure) will flow through the looser side first – there you over-extract, while the dense side remains under-extracted. The result: a mix of bitter chlorogenic acid products and acidic, underdeveloped organic acids in the same cup. The Really Nice Tamper mechanically eliminates this error – shot after shot, without practice, without visual judgment.

Frequently Asked Questions about the Weber Really Nice Tamper
Which size do I need for my machine?
58mm (58.55 mm) for La Marzocco, Rocket, ECM, Profitec, Slayer, E61, and all standard 58mm baskets. 54mm (53.50 mm) for Breville/Sage (Barista Express, Bambino, Infuser, etc.). 49mm (49.50 mm) for Olympia Cremina and La Pavoni pre-Millennium.
Can I change the size later?
Yes. Weber offers Base Kits (54mm and 49mm) separately – you keep the same handle and spring mechanism and only replace the tamping surface.
What is the difference between the 9 kg and 12 kg spring?
The 9 kg spring (pre-installed) offers lighter resistance – comfortable for most users. The 12 kg spring is included for those who prefer more counter-pressure when tamping. Both are tool-free exchangeable.
Does the tamper also fit in non-Weber baskets?
Yes. The 58.55mm diameter fits practically any standard 58mm basket – IMS, La Marzocco, Decent, and of course Weber's own Unifilter and Unibasket.
Does the tamper lift the puck when raised (vacuum)?
No. Weber deliberately designed the fit so that no vacuum is created – the tamper lifts cleanly without damaging the puck.
