Fourteen to sixteen grams, leveled precisely – and underneath the coffee grounds, a membrane keeps the puck stable while water flows evenly through. In a bottomless portafilter, the espresso flows as a concentrated, steady stream instead of individual jets.
Nobody needs such a basket for good espresso – the original basket does its job. You want it because the cup becomes clearer, rounder, and sweeter. This is one of many possible choices, and we respect them either way.
E&B-LAB is IMS's experimental laboratory. The hole pattern of this basket is created by electroforming: 715 holes, each with a constant 200 micrometers, extremely evenly distributed – quite different from stamped baskets. Additionally, it features patented Integrated-Membrane Technology: a membrane integrated directly into the basket, which keeps the puck maximally stable and prevents uneven extraction. What you taste is a full-bodied, round cup – density, sweetness, caramel, and nut clearly in the foreground. Espresso is extraction via a weight ratio, usually 1:2; the key is even flow – this basket is built precisely for that. It is our observation that the choice of basket fundamentally changes the flavor profile.

For anyone who doses in the classic double range and values maximum consistency – any budget is welcome. In a bottomless portafilter, you'll see the difference directly. If you dose leaner, you'll find the 12/14 g variant (H20). You belong here because you love coffee – not because you use a specific basket.
The basket looks best in a bottomless portafilter. To make the puck even: the tamper collection – affordable with Normcore, premium with Weber Workshops. Against clumps beforehand: WDT Tools. Plus the matching grinder. All other baskets: Precision Baskets Collection.
The holes are electroformed rather than stamped. This results in 715 holes of constant size (200 µm) and very even distribution – the basis for a stable extraction.
A membrane integrated into the basket that keeps the coffee puck stable during extraction and prevents channeling. Result: full-bodied, even, aromatic.
It is made for 58 mm portafilters (rim-Ø 70 mm, B70 standard) and fits common E61 and 58 mm group heads. If in doubt, tell us your machine model.
This basket (H22) is designed for 14 to 16 g – the classic double range. For leaner doses, there is the 12/14 g variant (H20).
Our showrooms in Bern (Gerberngasse 44) and Zurich (Hagenholzstrasse 50b) show a wide selection, but not our entire range – the display changes. Drop us a quick line at [email protected] before your visit, and we will check whether the product you have in mind is currently there.
An even basket rewards dense, aromatic beans the most. From our coffee roastery, Cozy Chocolate and Nutty Delight brew full-bodied and round. Those looking for maximum body without any acidity can stick with Very Nutty; those who like fruity notes will discover a lively peach note with Wild Peach. Our recommendation – one of many.
