The tallest 54 mm variant: 18–20 g, a full puck, more body in the cup. In the bottomless portafilter of your Sage or Breville, the espresso flows calmly and evenly.
Nobody needs a precision basket for good espresso – the original basket does its job. You want one because the cup becomes denser, rounder and clearer. It's one of many possible choices, and we respect it either way.
IMS's Competition perforation is designed for even extraction: 499 round holes with a conical cross-section, distributed in a grid, let the water run cleanly across the whole puck – fewer channels, a rounder cup. The surface is brightly polished all over, even inside the holes, so hardly any coffee residue sticks and cleaning is easy (dishwasher-safe). Made in Italy from AISI 304 stainless steel, with a flat bottom. Espresso is extraction by weight ratio, usually 1:2; what you taste is density, sweetness and a long finish. Taste and smell are inseparable; a large part arises retronasally. It is our observation that the choice of basket fundamentally changes the aroma profile.

For Sage and Breville users (Express, Bambino, Bambino Plus, Barista Pro) who dose high and want maximum body – every budget is welcome. At 28 mm tall, this basket is mainly intended for bottomless portafilters. If you dose more moderately, you'll also find the series in 22, 24 and 26 mm. You belong here because you love coffee – not because you run a particular basket.
A must for this height: a bottomless portafilter for your Sage/Breville. For a level puck: the tamper collection (for 54 mm, a 53.3 mm tamper, e.g. from Normcore) – premium tools from Weber Workshops. Against clumps beforehand: WDT tools. Plus the right grinder. All other baskets: the precision basket collection.
Yes – for 54 mm brew groups, including the Express, Bambino, Bambino Plus and Barista Pro. At 28 mm tall, it is mainly intended for bottomless portafilters; it is too tall for many standard portafilters.
At 28 mm tall, around 18–20 g – the largest dose in the 54 mm series. If you use less coffee, go for 22, 24 or 26 mm.
The polished surface lets hardly any residue stick; the basket is dishwasher-safe. For espresso oils, soak it in cleaner now and then.
Our showrooms in Bern (Gerberngasse 44) and Zurich (Hagenholzstrasse 50b) show a wide selection, but not our entire range – the display changes. Drop us a quick line at [email protected] before your visit, and we will check whether the product you have in mind is currently there.
An even basket rewards dense, aromatic beans most of all. From our coffee roastery, Cozy Chocolate and Nutty Delight pull through full-bodied and round. If you want maximum body without any acidity, stay with Very Nutty; if you like it fruity, discover a lively peach note with Wild Peach. Our recommendation – one of many.
