IMS Precision Basket 54 mm – h28, 18–20 g (for Sage & Breville)
The tallest 54mm variant: 18–20g, a full puck, more body in the cup. Espresso flows smoothly and evenly in the bottomless portafilter of your Sage or Breville.
Nobody needs a precision basket for good espresso – the original basket does its job. You want it because the cup becomes denser, rounder, and clearer. This is one of many possible choices, and we respect both directions.
What makes this basket special
IMS's Competition perforation is designed for even extraction: 499 round holes with a conical cross-section, arranged in a grid, allow water to flow cleanly across the entire puck – fewer channels, rounder in the glass. The surface is brightly polished all around, even inside the holes, so hardly any coffee residue sticks and cleaning is easy (dishwasher safe). Made from AISI-304 stainless steel in Italy, with a flat bottom. Espresso is extraction based on a weight ratio, usually 1:2; what you taste is density, sweetness, and a long finish. Taste and smell are inseparable, a large part arises retro-nasally. It is our observation that the choice of basket fundamentally changes the aroma profile.

Who it's for
For Sage and Breville users (Express, Bambino, Bambino Plus, Barista Pro) who dose high and want maximum body – all budgets are welcome. At 28mm tall, this basket is primarily intended for bottomless portafilters. Those who dose more moderately will also find the series in 22, 24, and 26 mm. You belong here because you love coffee – not because you use a specific basket.
What goes with it
A must for this height: a bottomless portafilter for your Sage/Breville. To make the puck even: the tamper collection (for 54mm, a 53.3mm tamper, e.g., from Normcore) – premium tools from Weber Workshops. Against clumps beforehand: WDT Tools. Plus the right grinder. All other baskets: Precision Baskets Collection.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does the basket fit my Sage or Breville?
Yes – for 54mm brew groups, including Express, Bambino, Bambino Plus, and Barista Pro. At 28mm tall, it is primarily intended for bottomless portafilters; it is too tall for many standard portafilters.
What dose does the h28 height hold?
At 28mm tall, approximately 18–20g – the largest dose in the 54mm series. Those who use less coffee should opt for 22, 24, or 26mm.
How do I clean the basket?
The polished surface hardly retains any residue; the basket is dishwasher safe. For espresso oils, occasionally soak in cleaning solution.
Can I see the basket before buying?
Yes, in our showrooms in Bern (Gerberngasse 44) and Zurich Oerlikon (Hagenholzstrasse 50b).
Roastery Tip
An even basket rewards dense, aromatic beans the most. From our coffee roastery, Cozy Chocolate and Nutty Delight extract with rich body and roundness. If you're looking for maximum body without any acidity, stick with Very Nutty; if you like fruity notes, Wild Peach offers a lively peach note. Our recommendation – one of many.
