One Cup, One Lid – and the Clumps Break Up
Freshly ground coffee falls into the cup, you put the lid on and give it a quick shake. The static clumps in the grounds break up before they move into the portafilter. What goes into the basket evenly extracts more evenly.
The NECCST Dosing Shaker is a 58 mm dosing cup with a tight-sealing lid. Instead of just carrying the grounds from grinder to portafilter, it turns the lid into a tool: a quick shake breaks up static clumps and loosens the grounds. Designed by Eckstein Design in Munich – the same studio behind the NECCST Series 1, winner of the Red Dot Design Award 2026.
What It Does in the Workflow
Less channelling
Shaking breaks up static clumps and distributes the grounds more evenly in the basket. Water finds fewer gaps through which to bypass the coffee – extraction becomes calmer and more predictable. Static clumps form especially with dry beans and a fine espresso grind; breaking them up is one of the simplest ways to an even shot. That's our observation, one of many.
A clean handover from the grinder
Compact enough to fit right under the grinder's spout. The grounds land in the cup instead of on the counter, and the path from grinder to basket stays clean.

Who It’s For
For single-dose workflows on 58 mm setups where a clean handover from the grinder and even distribution in the basket matter. You'll find more dosing cups in our dosing cups collection and more tools in the Barista Equipment Collection. The matching NECCST Series 1 hand grinder is among our hand grinders, with fresh beans to go with it from our coffee roastery.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does the Dosing Shaker fit every 58 mm portafilter?
Yes, it's designed for the standard 58 mm diameter used by most home and commercial espresso machines – La Marzocco, Rocket, ECM, Mahlkönig, Mazzer, Lelit and others.
Does shaking really help against channelling?
Shaking breaks up static clumps in the grounds and makes the distribution in the portafilter more even, which reduces the risk of channelling. That's our observation, one of many.
Do I need it in addition to the NECCST Series 1?
The NECCST Series 1 already has a catch cup. The Dosing Shaker is an additional workflow tool – handy if you work with grinders without an integrated catch cup or want a handover step with a shake.
Can I see the NECCST Dosing Shaker before buying?
Our showrooms in Bern (Gerberngasse 44) and Zurich (Hagenholzstrasse 50b) show a wide selection, but not our entire range – the display changes. Drop us a quick line at [email protected] before your visit, and we will check whether the product you have in mind is currently there.
Roastery Tip
For most of us, the Dosing Shaker pairs well with a coffee that extracts dense, aromatic and full-bodied: Cozy Chocolate and Nutty Delight show this beautifully.
If you want maximum body with no acidity at all, take a look at Very Nutty. For a fruity experience – a side note for the curious – we recommend Wild Peach.
Our recommendation is one of many – in the end, what counts is what you enjoy.
