Option-O LAGOM GDS Dual-Geometry Grinding System

The same coffee, once through a conical and once through a flat burr set, with both cups side by side on the table. That is what Option-O builds the LAGOM GDS for: two burr geometries in one grinder, driven by one motor.

According to Option-O, GDS stands for Grinding Dynamics Study. There are two configurations: conical and flat with Mizen HC100TX (100 mm conical) and Mizen 102OM (102 mm flat), or flat and flat with Mizen 102OM and SSP 102HU. A 1650 W brushless DC motor drives both burr sets via a belt, at 100–500 rpm for the conical and 200–2000 rpm for the flat burrs.

Speed changes the result. Our observation: higher rpm brings more body, lower rpm preserves delicate aromas. Grinders are like car engines, there is no objectively best one. The GDS makes this difference directly comparable. Our opinion is one of many; what counts is what tastes good to you in the cup.

According to Option-O, a pre-crushing system (PCS) regulates the bean flow into the conical burrs. The magnetic front platform can be reconfigured without tools, for portafilters from 49 to 58 mm or for the grind cup. The funnel holds up to 80 g of beans and allows continuous grinding.

Who it is for

For anyone who wants to compare burr geometries in their own cup rather than just read about them, at home, in a roastery or in a café. More Option-O grinders are in the Option-O collection, all grinders in our coffee grinders overview. How the LAGOM 01 and other large flat-burr grinders differ is shown in our comparison of Weber EG-1, LAGOM P80 and LAGOM 01.

To go with it: scales that are affordable and precise from Normcore, with app and flow rate from Acaia. Dosing cups, tampers and WDT tools are affordable at Normcore and come with more weight and finish at Weber Workshops. Matching machines are in espresso machines.

Our advisor tool narrows down the choice of machine and grinder, and a free consultation appointment is available in the showroom, by phone or online. If you want to test grinders side by side, book the espresso machine and grinder comparison in our Zurich showroom, an option, not a requirement. Financing available.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between the two configurations?

Conical + flat combines the 100 mm Mizen HC100TX conical burrs with the 102 mm Mizen 102OM flat burrs. Flat + flat combines Mizen 102OM with SSP 102HU. Both run on the same motor.

Which speeds are possible?

According to Option-O, 100–500 rpm for the conical and 200–2000 rpm for the flat burrs.

How big and heavy is the LAGOM GDS?

28.5 × 40.5 × 18 cm (W × H × D) at 29 kg.

When will it be delivered?

The LAGOM GDS is sold as a pre-order. We will tell you the current delivery date on request at [email protected].

Can I see the grinder before buying?

Option-O is represented in our Zurich showroom (Hagenholzstrasse 50b). Not every model is set up at all times, so write to us beforehand at [email protected].

Tip from the roastery: For comparing conical and flat, Cozy Chocolate and Nutty Delight work well, full-bodied with chocolate and nuts, 1:2 as a starting point. If you want maximum body without acidity, go for Very Nutty. For the curious who take the flat burrs towards filter: Wild Peach, fruity and lively. That is our recommendation, one of many.
